When a leftist saw his gun joke, the man was arrested for making terrorist threats, a major felony, and has been in prison or under house arrest for 21 months.
Twenty-one-year-old Lucas Gerhard was arrested almost two years ago in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, for sending an obvious joke to friends via a private Snapchat. Since then, he spent 83 days in jail, before being transferred to house arrest, where he is unable to go to school, leave the house, or use the internet. And this is all because he made a private joke about his legal AR-15. This is a heinous assault on both his First and Second Amendment rights. Moreover, it takes place against a backdrop of leftist prosecutors and governors across America bending over backward to release violent criminals.
Lucas Gerhard, a former Eagle Scout, attended Lake Superior State University (“LSSU”) in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where he was working towards a degree in criminal justice with the goal of a career in law enforcement. LSSU is a fairly small school, just south of the Canadian border, with only 2,000-2,500 students, many of whom are Canadian.
LSSU is something of an “aggie” college, with a large and respected criminal justice program. Still, as is the case for 99% of American colleges, it manages to have a “social justice and community activism” page as part of its campus life – although the link to that page is dead. One of LSSU’s leftist students, a young woman, frequently argued with Lucas, so much so that he blocked her on social media.
In the summer of 2019, Lucas bought himself an AR-15, which he brought to campus with him. At the time, he promptly followed school rules, checking his gun and ammunition in with the LSSU safety office.

There was a related post on FR yesterday, but I can't remember the title to find it and post a link.
Back when I was in High School, we had a marksmanship team. We’d bring our rifles to school 3x days/week, keep them in our car/truck until after school, then practice for an hour on an empty field off to the side of the football field. Never any problems, no complaints. Just teenagers learning firearm safety and practice.
Can you imagine how badly that would trigger Libs today?
He said, “And I mean snowflakes, as in snow.”.
That clarifies that it is not a threat. This is stupid.
Hey, me too.
Vanguard High School in Ocala Florida and Lake Weir High School in Candler (1976).
Protest in front of prosecutor’s house.
This is abuse. He is obviously acting as a censor in extremis. This public needs to stand up to this Nazi!
We need imprecatory prayer against this evil prosecutor.
FTA
“It’s time to make the powers that be across America hear that those who value the Constitution, the rule of law, and common sense, are the real majority.”
Unfortunately, those “powers that be” do not care about, nor do they value, the Constitution, the rule of law, or common sense.
Same here in Arkansas. never thought about it. Mostly unlocked. Different times.
Humor and figures of speech are concepts foreign to woke leftards. Telling a joke was considered “counter revolutionary activity”, as well as “promoting insurrection “, with a one year sentence in the DDR (Kiss my arse, I’m in the west now).
There was no threat. This is to criminalize having a gun, even legally. They haven’t ripped up the 2nd Amendment (yet) so they attempt to invalidate it.
The U.S. is infested with Rats, Butthurts, and emotionall challenged people everywhere..He threatened anyone who wanted to “feel” threatened... We live in a world where even thoughts *real or perceived* can be prosecuted and a guy can get 2 years for “ he hurt my feelings “. There are even a few snowflakes here on the free republic...
Same here. I had an old International Harvester Scout with gun racks in the windows. During hunting season, the principal would always encourage us to bring our shotguns to school incase the weather conditions got right to go duck hunting. He’d dismiss class. He was a big duck and rabbit hunter with Beagles. Those were great times. It’s ashame what this world has come to. This crap started when they started putting kids on psych meds that eventually started them shooting up schools.

“When I was in high school in central Florida, students often had rifle racks in the back window of their truck. With rifles in them.”
Same here, to add to that in the 90’s we took rifles onto a major US Air Base and no one cared.
Much of this started to change in the mid-90’s and worsened with our lib presidents Clinton, Bush and really slid downhill with obama.
Back to rifle racks, I recall rifles in the back window of pickups, pickups running, and unlocked while the owners where in a store or bar. No one even thought of stealing the pickup or a gun.
As little kids everyone had loaded guns in their home and no little kid ever thought of picking one up and shooting someone. We all knew shooting killed and dead was dead.
It’s amazing how the left has changed our culture.
At least one of the people he sent it to wasn't much of a friend.
It’s like that Tom Cruise movie Minority Report where the perp would be arrested before an alleged crime was committed.
A snowflake saw one of his friends looking at it on a cell phone and took a phone photo of it.
Can somebody take a photo of what’s on your phone if you don’t let them?
Free speech is not a big value to libs.
My father went to Penn State. One morning he sauntered into class with a hunting rifle over his shoulder, took out the bolt, leaned it up against the wall at the back of the class and took a seat. Not one student said boo and many didn’t even turn around until the professor asked if he got anything while he was out (He was in hunting clothes to boot.)
I guess with him having been an E5 in the 50’s when every kid there had numerous relatives that had been in WW II or Korea people were still normal.
