Companies Ponder Speeding Up Plans to Bring Workers Back to Offices
WSJ ^ | May 16, 2021 3:17 pm ET | Chip Cutter and Konrad Putzier

Rich Lesser, the chief executive officer of Boston Consulting Group, gathered with his executives Friday in the wake of the CDC’s new guidance that says vaccinated Americans no longer need to wear masks and observe social distancing in most instances.

At issue is whether the relaxed rules change how quickly BCG and other companies should bring workers back into skyscrapers from Manhattan to San Francisco.

“It was a surprising decision,” Mr. Lesser said of the new federal guidelines. He said BCG executives would be holding more meetings to think through the company’s plans on Sunday and Monday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated guidance on Thursday threw a new wrinkle into reopening plans, raising questions about whether to speed up office-return dates. Whether companies change course quickly depends, in part, on local laws governing office capacity and masks, as well as the comfort level of employees being asked to return, executives said.

Yep. My college I work remotely in the Bay Area is demanding an immediate return to face-to-face classes.

Students and faculty must produce proof of vaccination before allowed on campus.

No students or faculty showed up the first week. The Monday faculty meeting will be interesting.

Oh, and the face mask, shields and gloves order still stands.

The reason for the demand for face to face, appears to be a way to enforce vaccination.

It fills me with foreboding why they are so adamant about everyone getting it.

These executives are either delusional or dumb as hell, or they’re just blowing smoke up the collective @sses of the WSJ readers.

If your staff has been working at home for more than a year, there’s no compelling reason to bring them back into an office.

I saw an article last week in a commercial real estate publication that highlights the dilemma these companies face. One number that jumped out at me was that something like 40% of the people who have been working from home since last year not only don’t want to return to the office ... but they’re going to change jobs if they’re forced to go back.

The zoom bullshit is coming to a close quickly

Screw zoom

I still have city inspectors trying to use it. That’s no inspection

Easy for me. But total crap

Nothing like being there

Seems that way.

Seems California is forcing most college faculty to watch patently disgusting mandatory woke discrimination/harassment videos (so says the HR department at the school).

The first 10 minutes of a 30 minute required video class was all about Trannys, and we are not talking auto parts.

Most offices, in TX, have been fully open, for months.

Under such a burden, whey would anybody even bother going back to the physical campus?

Yeah, let’s all force people back to the office. The economy needs people to waste time and gas being stuck 1 to 2 hours each way in traffic …
… Just to come into an office and mask up for 8-9 hours a day.

The indoor mask requirements that most offices have probably won’t be going away soon, regardless of what the Chinese Democrat Controllers have to say. Too many Karens and busybodies to enforce mask wearing.

Accreditation, mainly.

If I wasn’t half way around the world, and the mask and social distancing nonsense were lifted, I would go. Something about just being in a classroom (plus all the multi-million dollar audio gear they have on campus)

I have actual physical problems wearing a mask. So it’s actually painful for me.

Schools in Texas have been open since last October. I'll wager a guess that Texas students have opened up another year's advantage over their counterparts from California.

There is no need to travel to some building to work on a computer when you can sit at home and do the same thing.

Don’t think of it as a problem, think of it as an opportunity to purge the Karen’s off the payroll, leaving only people you actually WANT to see every day! If it’s the law, what are they gonna do, sue?

In fact, even if the long term plan is more WFH, start with a mandatory office period of a couple months or whatever, and let the good guys in on it. Then once all the Karen’s, busy bodies, and cowering libs ‘voluntarily’ quit, then implement the actual policy.

That’s the effed up thing at my college.

They want us all in the classroom (limited to 5 students - the rest can be remote). We are to teach simultaneous face-to-face and remote.

Desks have plexiglass all around, and students bring their own laptops. And we not allowed to walk around the classroom as before.

So what’s the purpose as face-to-face is the same as remote. (Using discord and individual laptops)…

Oh accreditation and faculty accountability.

All while wearing masks. Something NOT required at homez

I have no issue with the virus. Doesn’t enter my mind.

But working from home has been good for me and I have no need or desire to go back to the office. I think companies may find themselves in a pickle if people just decide they aren’t coming back.

I’m sorry to hear that. Masks are not all they claim to be.

And yes, at this point I expect my mask to begin talking to me. LOL!

It is just that crazy.

Planning to go in 1-2 days a week. There’s really no need but we are all getting sick of the emails and the zooms, etc. But if they ever made 5 days mandatory I would definitely seek a different position.
