Melting Ice Sheets 14,600 Years Ago Caused Seas to Rise 10 Times Faster Than Today

Current models used by many climate scientists estimate global sea levels could rise by between 1 and 2 meters by the end of this century.

The Durham researchers used detailed geological sea-level data and state-of-the-art modeling techniques to reveal the sources of the dramatic five-century sea level rising event.

Comparable to melting an ice sheet twice the size of Greenland, it resulted in the flooding of vast areas of low-lying land and disrupted ocean circulation, with knock-on effects for global climate, they said.

"Our study includes novel information from lakes around the coast of Scotland that were isolated from the ocean due to land uplift following the retreat of the British Ice Sheet, allowing us to confidently identify the meltwater sources," added co-author Yucheng Lin, also of Durham's geography department.

Identifying the source of the meltwater will help improve the accuracy of climate models that are used to replicate the past and predict changes in the future, the team added.

They noted the findings were particularly timely with the Greenland ice sheet rapidly melting and contributing to a rise in sea levels and changes to global ocean circulation.

They fail to mention that 1800 years after the beginning of the melt, circa 10,800BC, there was a hundred year long comet strike on the North American Laurentide Ice Sheet near the present day Great Lakes - that event began the Younger Dryas Age which was even colder that the Ice Age causing the glaciers to reform for the next 1000 years when something, likely another comet remnant, ended the Younger Dryas suddenly.

“Comparable to melting an ice sheet twice the size of Greenland,”
The Laurentide and Cordilleran, and Eurasian ice sheets were, together, were orders of magnitude larger than 2x Greenland. These guys aren’t even telling the truth about the commonly accepted size of the ice sheets.

This pronouncement seems more toward gaining grants for climate warming models than informing anyone about anything - other than the people who hand out climate grants. See wool, pull over eyes.

Total lies and scare mongering. I have been alive over half a century and have yet to actually see or read a news story where people have actually been flooded out of their property in America just due to sea level rise and not a storm.

“...the Greenland ice sheet rapidly melting and contributing to a rise in sea levels...”

And where might the rise in sea levels be seen? Sea-level is, well, sea-level and it should be pretty much the same everywhere the sea is.

If anyone is interested check out a path in England called the Broomway. It’s a legal right of way that is flooded twice a day by high tides—fairly dangerous to traverse. It’s been in use for the last 700 years. Seems like sea level is pretty much the same as it has been.

Ten times faster than today? I thought 10 X 0 was zero. But there was some sea level rise back then.

In areas that they choose to cherry-pick. But beaches on the Oregon coast where I used to go as a kid are the same now as they were then. Those don’t count.

It looks like Hydrological Engineers from the Netherlands may become much in demand.

https://www.britannica.com/place/Zuiderzee A great Dike Building Engineering Company: https://www.arcadis.com/en/projects/europe/netherlands/netherlands-translations/limburg-noordelijke-maasvallei If the climate hands you shite, you grow flowers is the attitude of the Dutch. The Alinskyite Climate Change idiots want to destroy capitalism and place people under tyranny. Not the Dutch. They just take their land back.

During the last ice age the Sahara was green and parts were covered in massive great Lakes sized bodies of fresh water. Look up the Libyan great river project they are mining the fossil water that is the ground water left over under what was those Lakes the total amounts of water in place is staggering it represents a bit small fraction of the total ground water on the planet. Just sitting under the now Sahara “desert” never say Sahara desert that’s redundant as the word Sahara literally translates to desert in the native languages. I have hearing desert desert and the locals do as well. Every one should walk the sands in Tunisia it should be a bucket list item so moving at sunset. Cheers.
