March 17 (UPI) -- A photographer taking pictures of a surfer at a Florida beach captured a rare shot when the man was photobombed by a wave-jumping manta ray.
Rusty Escandell said he was visiting the beach near Patrick Space Force Base in Satellite Beach with his son when he decided to take some photos of a surfer out on the water.
"To be frank with you, I was actually focusing on the surfer. I was doing a burst, catching several frames, and it wasn't until I got home and I was reviewing the pictures that I actually saw what was happening in the background," Escandell told WKMG-TV.
The photo captured a manta ray jumping out of a wave behind the surfer.
Escandell told WTXF-TV he estimated the ray was at least 8-feet long, "but probably bigger."

It's hysterectomy. Originally intended to treat hysteria in emotional females.
Ones a fish the others a car
Story is without the details on the board the manta was using...
Mexico Beach was my favorite beach...sigh

We vacationed there when I was a kid. Great place; the last little vacation town that I’m aware of. I’m afraid when it comes back it’s going to be full of condos just like everywhere else. Major loss.
Terrorist or Jewish Manta Ray?
Bet it wouldn’t have taken this one near that long to bring you in! LOL
While parasailing at St. Pete Beach years ago I saw a huge manta ray very close to shore - glided by maybe 25 feet from some people playing in the water, who had no idea it was there. Was very cool to see one!
So Cool!!!!!!
I didn’t see that one coming. You win the Woke award!
“That’s not a manta ray ... that’s Batman!”
Not Stingray, nor Manta Ray, nor even a Batman...
It’s clearly a UFO studying surfers.
I love Okaloosa island. We took a couple there a few years back and decided to take a midnight stroll. It was a full moon and the water was still as could be. So we ventured out in the water about knee deep. I saw this sand shark coming our way. It was oblivious to us because it was chasing the small fishes. The wives about had a heart attack and me and the other guy thought it was funny as all get out. It didn’t spook until the flash from the camera went off and it took off like a bolt.
Oh no. He’d be dragging the boat out to sea :)
That sounds quite believable LOL
Here you go:
“This was a condition thought to be exclusive to women – sending them uncontrollably and neurotically insane owing to a dysfunction of the uterus (the removal of which is still called a hysterectomy)”

Have a barf bucket handy if you read the whole thing.
There are a bunch of different rays. At our marina in Ventura, Ca certain times of the year the water by the gangways is full of bat rays and skates. I love watching them.
They look like they are from outer space.

Saw one once off Bonaire, while diving. We were at around 50 feet in clear water. The sea floor just lifted up and this mammoth ray hovered in the water, raining sand.
All I could think of was a UFO silently launching on anti-grav.
Awesome.
Nope, I am. Check profile.
