Post-Rush Limbaugh Plans Unveiled At Cox Media Group's WSB Atlanta and WOKV Jacksonville

Cox Media Group is moving into the post-Rush Limbaugh era with new programs on news/talkers WSB-WSBB-FM (750/95.5) Atlanta and WOKV-FM Jacksonville (104.5).

Erik Erickson moves from 4-6pm to 12-3pm at WSB, followed by one-hour of Sean Hannity (3-4pm) and then Mark Arum from 4-7pm, who adjusts from his current 6-8pm show hours. The final two hours of Hannity will air from 7-9pm.

“I would never have gotten into radio without encouragement from Rush Limbaugh who has been gracious over the years with a lot of great advice and guidance,” Erickson, who has been with the station for a decade, said in a release. “It was an honor to fill in for him on his show, and it is overwhelming and humbling to move into the slot Rush occupied with such distinction for so long. I appreciate and intend to live up to the responsibility that comes with this time slot.”

Arum has been with WSB since 1997 and also serves as the traffic anchor for WSB-TV’s “Channel 2 Action News This Morning.” He remains as the youngest inductee ever into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2017.

“When I was hired at 95.5 WSB over 23 years ago, I could never have envisioned that I would ever get the opportunity to host a drive time show on the best news and talk station in the nation. It’s a cliché, but this is truly a dream come true,” Arum said. “I invite all of Metro Atlanta and North Georgia to get all the news, weather and traffic they need, and the entertainment they want every afternoon with me and my pals on 95.5 WSB, Atlanta’s News and Talk.”

In Jacksonville, Mark Kaye, who recently stepped down from his morning show on CHR WAPE-FM to focus on his talk show at WOKV-FM, moves from 10am-12pm to 12-3pm. The syndicated Brian Kilmeade will now air from 9am-12pm on WOKV-FM. The show previously aired from 9-10am and 6-8pm on the station.

“As a life-long fan of Rush Limbaugh, I am still adjusting to a world without his voice,” Kay remarked. “Producing a daily show in ‘Rush’s timeslot’ is a daunting task for any broadcaster, but I am grateful to the leadership team at CMG and 104.5 WOKV for placing their trust in me. With the audience's help I promise to do my best to keep Rush’s spirit, energy, and unique brand of conservative entertainment alive. This is an incredibly bittersweet opportunity.”

“I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to elevate internal CMG talent to these critically essential dayparts on our news-talk stations,” Senior VP, Radio Rob Babin added. “Mark Kaye, Erick Erickson and Mark Arum each have a proven track record and commitment to our audience and communities. I have no doubt their success will continue as they expand to new dayparts and reach new audiences.”

All changes go into effect Monday, March 22.

Steyn is my favorite. Ken Matthews is good too.

However, I’m intrigued with the idea of giving Candace Owens a try at it.

A fresh face, let’s say.

When Paul Harvey died, no one was able to take his place, and the 8:30 and 12:15 time slots were never filled. The same is true with Rush, and there isn’t any reason to try. How the true conservative movement will find its new voice is something we don’t know yet, any more than we knew in 1988 that there was a Rush Limbaugh who would become that voice.

It’s not up to her. I’m sure he made his wishes known in his will. If she wants to donate her money that Rush leaves to her she can do that.

I’ve a lifelong Maryland of nearly 61 years and WCBM has been my favorite local station since Rush was picked up from WBAL.

Heartbreaking to lose both the incomparable Tom Marr and the irreplaceable Rush Limbaugh in less than five years.

I really enjoy when Pat McDonough hosts the mid-morning show.

Kind of hard to believe that Rush, Kathryn and Bo Snerdley didn’t come up with somebody to carry the torch of the EIB network.

Hunter may be good but rather boring—and here’s a vote to bring back the consummate pro Frank Luber to work with Sean Casey for the morning program.

Yes, Erik Erickson is not the right guy.

I figure the only reason Erickson is in there is a temporary slot before a real Rush replacement emerges.

Erickson and Brian the UnKempt Governor are buddy-buddy never-Trumpers.

They tried that. Rush’s guest hosts were essentially auditions for future greatness. The only one who came close to steeping up was Steyn. He’s pretty good, but he’s no Rush.

Meanwhile, they ruined Mark Davis. He went from being a fun & funny local talker with politics on the side to taking himself too seriously and becoming a blowhard.

He should have stuck to monkeys & NFL picks.

Meanwhile, Rush was a one of a kind, once in several generations talent. Much like Johnny Carson, those shoes are too big for anyone to fill. He spent years polishing and perfecting his craft before 1988.

It’s not just about the views, it’s not just about being “correct”. It’s about being entertaining. Rush knew how to entertain an audience, how to make them feel in on the jokes, part of something special. How to make you want to tune in tomorrow.

For someone to pick up that mantle now, they’d have to have started working on it 15 years ago.

Self correction:

Meant to write:

Sorry.

I think Luber’s about 80 years old.

I don’t listen any more. Just hearing the opening bumper music makes me sad

Exactly.

So who is going to replace Rush? I vote Mark Steyn. Stop with the the daily Rush rewind tributes already.

Rush has always mentioned the Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies. Well, now's the time to make it a reality.

It was a reality, he ran it, served as the head professor and lectured every day for three hours.

Erick Erickson is a never-Trumper.

He’s the anti-Limbaugh. He’s GOP-establishment to the core.

The ratings must have really slumped after Rush’s death.

Radio media has been looking forward to the day where they can replace Limbaugh with faux conservatives.

Erickson is one of the worst. I can’t believe anyone listens to him.

Erickson is going from drive time to the afternoon slot. In radio terms, that’s a huge step DOWN.

4-6 PM is the most listened to time slot in radio.

Erickson will have fewer people listening over 3 hours (from 12-3) than he did in 2 hours from 4-6.

This can really be looked at as a demotion for Eric Erickson.

Rush had a “harmless, loveable, little fuzz ball” quality.

Chris is more like as “harmless, loveable little porcupine.” ;)

And I began listening to Chris when he began his morning show on WMAL in DC and have continued listening to him out here in the Midwest via WLS.

I liked Roger Hedgecock back in the day. But read that he and Rush had a falling out, so that’s not going to happen.
