in our area, there is salmonella poisoning going around, and the experts encouraged people to take down their birdfeeders for now....well I left one up...and the suet....the suet....some home made some store bought....
okay ....has anyone found canning jar lids?....I looked at amazon...one regular mouth box of 12 going for over $12!+

Yeah - I thought about the Sea Berry after I posted it. I was trying to remember what the ‘Russian Mail Order Brides’ used to buy from me when I was at Jung’s. They were all so excited to see some of their ‘native’ fruits could be grown here in Wisconsin. Such GORGEOUS gals - you wouldn’t believe how pretty - my Stock Boys were all tripping over themselves to help them load up their cars, LOL! Someone got their money’s worth with those babes! ;)
Though, based upon that ‘Hot to Crazy Matrix,’ maybe not, LOL!
Anyhow - maybe Rhubarb in a shady spot? It can tolerate some shade. I couldn’t live without it - LOVE Rhubarb!
Beau has been trying, IN VAIN, to grow the Honey Berry for the past 10 years - trying to convince him to give it up and plant the Nanking Bush Cherries or we should just go all-in on Blueberries. At least we’d get SOMETHING for our efforts!
I’ve been recommending Lehmans.com, but haven’t looked in a few weeks.
Try every local store you can think of - hardware stores, home supply stores, farm stores, etc. They ARE out there - just hard to find. I, and others have gotten into the habit of buying them wherever we see them.

This week Central Missouri is locked in the freezer along with everyone else. We’ve been getting snow pretty much every day, and with temps staying in the single digits there is no melting.
We have wood on the woodpile, propane in the tank, and groceries in the pantry. Cats are going stir crazy. It’s so cold they don’t even want to go out and sit under a bird feeder. Puppy likes the snow and would like to play out longer than this human is willing to tolerate the cold. lol
The active ingredient in Preen is trifluralin, ie: Treflan
It is a pre-emerge herbicide that is quite toxic to fish and aquatic invertibrates, and is known to be an endocrine disrupter in mammals. Corn gluten is not a component of Preen, but it does use ground corn cob as the carrier material for the active ingredient.
I’ll use Preen on Mrs. Augie’s flower beds, but I don’t want it anywhere near my victory garden.
I hate pulling weeds, so I may pick up some corn gluten this spring and give that a try.
Augie is correct and caution SHOULD be used if you're using Preen. That's why I recommend corn gluten due to the Treflan being hazardous to waterways and some of our 'good' bugs.

MWH: Yep, absolutely amazing camo! Pulled up the pic when I got up this morning. and even though I knew exactly where to look, I felt like I was going cross eyed for a second there trying to find it... The bottom part of the S-shape seems to go under some leaves, but it doesn't. It's on top all the way to the very tip of the tail!
