Texas house member files bill for a nonbinding referendum question: "Should the legislature of the State of Texas submit a plan for leaving the United States of America and establishing an independent republic?”

I wonder if secession is the right move here. Many would argue that it is not permitted under the treaty that made Texas a state. However, there is a little known article of that treaty that permits Texas at any time to voluntarily break up into as many as five states. If the borders are drawn correctly we should be able to ensure that at least four of them are solid red. That would give us a net gain of two states’ worth of senators and most of the electoral votes.
“The wall along the Oklahoma border will be a Great Wall”
Sorry, but you cant leave without Oklahoma. What would North Dallas do for overflow parking without us?? ;-)
On a serious note.... Texas and Oklahoma are attached at the hip...physically and economically. There is a huge rivalry between the two (think football) like there is between 2 brothers. Fight one, you fight both. You guys arent going anywhere without us.

I was born in Houston - as a native-born Texan, do you think I’ll have citizenship in the new Republic? :-)
Texas and Oklahoma are not in the same economic league.
I lived in Houston from 1978-1980. Much different from what you described. I’m sure it’s not the same place now.
If Texas had no standing in the process of the States following the rules to select the President at the SC (one of it's specific duties IS disputes between the various States) then no State or branch of the Federal Government has any standing to prevent the State of Texas from leaving the union in which they have zero representation.
We are not "subjects" of the Federal Government and if the other states are allowed to violate their own codified laws by the Federal Government, then the the laws of that government are meaningless to The State of Texas.

Where does Oklahoma rank in state GDP?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oklahoma is well down the list at about 30... 1/10 the GDP of Texas. Regardless, GDP isn’t the only or even the most important criterion for ‘joining the club’. Cultural similarity and mutual benefit are more important....
If I remember correctly, Oklahoma didn’t have a single county that went for 0bama in the 08 and 12 elections. That says a lot for the character of the people who live there.
Don't discount Texans now. I wasn't born here but got here as quick as I could. The attitude for most of Texas is already very independent from the other states, although we identify with OK, FL and LA somewhat many other states seem like foreign countries to us. If we could remove the political power from Austin, Houston and Dallas, most of the rest of the state would gladly consider an exit from the Union.
Why would Texas want to become a republic with a state that would be economically dependent on real Texans.
As for cultural, Texas shares a lot of cultural with Louisiana and Mexico, but there is no need to make Louisiana and the northern states of Mexico into the Republic of Texas.
We need to pressure the people of Arkansas to join this secession movement. Unfortunately our current Governor is a major RINO. He will be gone this term. That is the good news.
15% of the population of Oklahoma is on welfare.
I’m guessing that most of it is on the Indian reservations.
“I’m guessing that most of it is on the Indian reservations.”
But they are Oklahomans?
Oklahoma too!
I would be backing Sarah Huckabee Sanders in a heartbeat! I have a ton of respect for her.
Why would Texas want to become a republic with a state that would be economically dependent on real Texans.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, the GDP may be 1/10 but the population is something around 1/10 as well.... so I don’t get the statement that they are “a state that would be economically dependent on real Texans”.
Likewaise, I was born there. I wonder if this happens, will I be let back in?
Do it!!!
