When I had my first two babies, the doc ordered an inflatable mattress which did what you described. I didn’t know enough with the first two get rid of it. But with the second, upon being returned to my room, I ordered it gone, along with the humidifier. The nurses replied they couldn’t remove it as my doc had ordered it. I summoned up my courage and said, “Write on my chart, ‘the patient refused.’” It worked. No sea sickness from the mattress and no pneumonia from wet air being sprayed on my face.

Oh Rush....such a wonderful man. I still can’t believe he’s gone, and I cry every time I think about him.

“Woke up thinking about the orange orchard in Florida when they froze fires were buikt to keep the blossoms from freezing. Why couldn’t something similar have been done to the windmills.”

I don’t think the heat from a fire could go that high.

“How big is a wind turbine? Industrial wind turbines are a lot bigger than ones you might see in a schoolyard or behind someone’s house. The widely used GE 1.5-megawatt model, for example, consists of 116-ft blades atop a 212-ft tower for a total height of 328 feet.”

I never heard of a hospital using an inflatable bed. Why do they use it?

It was a mattress that went on top of the regular mattress. There were baffles built in which would inflate and deflate in turn. This meant constant movement and was supposed to prevent bedsores. So at times the right shoulder would be high. Then after a time it would deflate. Next, my left hip would be so treated. Or whatever. I had an emergency c-section and so my abdomen had been sliced open from navel on down.

I would guess it is to encourage circulation. I had inflatable leg cuffs after an abdominal surgery... after one sleepless night, I asked if I could just move my legs or walk around a few times an hour instead (and sleep at night) and that was ok. But they still came in at all hours to take vitals. No fun! I was there for ten days but would do it again though.

I’m one of the strange ones who want to be in the hospital instead of expecting my husband to do CPR or something 😂

“No sea sickness from the mattress...”

I didn’t get sea sick from it. It was I move so much and every time I moved it would adjust the mattress and the motor noise was driving me crazy. I tried to get them to shut it off but they couldn’t. I finally made myself a bed out of the guest sofa. That wasn’t very comfortable either.

Just thinking they didn’t even try any thing. That’s what bothered me.

“I never heard of a hospital using an inflatable bed.”

My local hospitals mattress is an air mattress and every time you move it adjust so there are supposedly no pressure points. It was the motor that drove me nuts.

I am with you! Hubby tried hard but I have needed medical care and he just can’t do it. The hospital treats me well.

That, too. Motors do drive me nuts! But the constant motion was the worst.

Apropos of nothing: our barred owl is searching for his mate. That sound doesn’t, oddly, keep me up.
