Trying to go to the store less during the coronavirus pandemic? 24/7 Tempo has assembled a list of foods that won't spoil quickly, making them good choices to stock should you want to quarantine.

1. Apples • Shelf life: 2 weeks to 6 months The apples we eat in spring and summer were often harvested in cooler weather. That's because they're a fruit that can stay fresh and crisp for as long as six months if they're stored in a cold, dark place (such as a root cellar in winter). If they're kept in a fruit bowl at room temperature, they'll generally remain at their best for at least two weeks, sometimes as long as a month.

Well, REAL beer is liquid bread. Fresh beer is high in vitamin B complex, fiber and other goodies. And there are definite benefits outside the physiological, e.g., enjoying a pint or two with a friend.

Blue Diamond nuts plastic lids are the perfect size to cover many cans. Cat food cans, spaghetti, chili, etc. Saves on plastic wrap and foil. Or just put a saucer on top of leftovers.

No need for utilities if you make a solar oven with cardboard and foil. The rice takes on a nice nutty taste.

1 C jasmine rice to 1.5 C water.

Speaking of vinegar, don’t pour out pickle juice.

Use a cup (or more) when slow cooking a roast.

Flavors salads.

Cut up a cucumber into some to make more pickles.

Some people like it on shaved ice.

Ok, you can pour it down the sink to clear pipes as a substitute for the vinegar.

I prefer Spam - can’t stand Dak Hams, lol.

I’m down to one of the hams. It’s ok on a ham and pineapple homemade pizza. Won’t buy any more.

1. Apples • Shelf life: 2 weeks to 6 months

Make sure you buy the ones with the stem ON. Then they'll last a lot longer.

Real Bacon is fine. Imitation Bacon gags a maggot. Whether it is bacon flavored spam or imitation bacon bits.

I have a glaze that I use and I stud the ham bigly with whole cloves and then bake the heck out of it. Leftovers go into a cheese and potato casserole.

I never met a C-Ration, MRE or whatever you wanted to call them that I didn’t like - but then, I was 99 pounds soaking wet and the Army had me burning about 9,000 calories a DAY back then. ;)

And I STILL miss Army Life every day! :)

“I use dry milk in my coffee. Tastes great.”

I need to try that. I am totally addicted to the liquid flavored coffee creamers.

I try to make my own, but I just can’t seem to get the combination of chemical additives right, LOL!

However, the preservatives may be the only thing keeping me alive. It’s a fine balance in all things these days, it seems. ;)
