A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography imagessimilar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.
"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."
Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.
Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

“Uh oh, I feel gravity altering! You have to fix it! Push it back into place, private!” another line heard right before doing pushups.

Other variations were “Talk to the devil, private. Tell him what you did wrong!”

Thank you for kitteh. Thank you for well wishes. What Cuban dish? Do you happen to recall the post # ? Please excuse. I just can't find a lot of energy to communicate since my husband passed. I manage to get the basics done but fall sadly behind on the niceties. Neuromuscular disorder doesn't help. Towbar on my car caught lip of pothole and poor car was totalled. I'm pretty much a shut-in anyway, but I still go out to get groceries every two weeks (which knocks me out for at least two days), so it's still an inconvenience. The airbags deployed and practically punched my lights out.
Anyway, I still have to eat and love Cuban food, so am interested. All the Cubans I've known love America and detest communism, so I guess I love Cubans, too.
Anyway, hope y'all have a great weekend.

Howdy.
I hope things are going well for you in this new year. Has your family managed to escape the Covid bug?

Nobody here has gotten sick yet.
So I’m assuming a tentative yes.

I’m so sorry about your husband, the car, and all that. I didn’t see the Cuban recipe, either!

No sense of smell is not cool or useful, at least my current environment. I think I could sort of smell a “raspberry” scent candle this morning. It was like red jello.

If you lived near a pulp mill or a volcano it might be good. If you had to eat swill every day.

Somehow, SG, when I saw your first post, I knew your husband passed and I’m so sorry to hear of it. My condolences. Grief is not an easy thing.
I’ll FReepmail you the recipe, so check back in about ten minutes, OK? <3

Durians.
It is an advantage with durians and any hakarl, lutefisk, or surstromming.

Thanks! I couldn’t recall how far back the link was, but since I had printed the recipe, I just copied it for them. However, having the actual recipe makes it a lot easier to make, so thanks again. It will be cooked up today! At least in this house! It would have been done yesterday but I had no tomato paste.
I always try to make a recipe as it’s written the first time, and after that, I make adjustments.
