Geologists 'resurrect' missing tectonic plate
Phys.org ^ | 10/20/2020 | Sara Tubbs, University of Houston

A team of geologists at the University of Houston College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics believes they have found the lost plate in northern Canada by using existing mantle tomography images—similar to a CT scan of the earth's interior. The findings, published in Geological Society of America Bulletin, could help geologists better predict volcanic hazards as well as mineral and hydrocarbon deposits.

"Volcanoes form at plate boundaries, and the more plates you have, the more volcanoes you have," said Jonny Wu, assistant professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. "Volcanoes also affect climate change. So, when you are trying to model the earth and understand how climate has changed since time, you really want to know how many volcanoes there have been on earth."

Wu and Spencer Fuston, a third-year geology doctoral student, applied a technique developed by the UH Center for Tectonics and Tomography called slab unfolding to reconstruct what tectonic plates in the Pacific Ocean looked like during the early Cenozoic Era. The rigid outermost shell of Earth, or lithosphere, is broken into tectonic plates and geologists have always known there were two plates in the Pacific Ocean at that time called Kula and Farallon. But there has been discussion about a potential third plate, Resurrection, having formed a special type of volcanic belt along Alaska and Washington State.

Using 3-D mapping technology, Fuston applied the slab unfolding technique to the mantle tomography images to pull out the subducted plates before unfolding and stretching them to their original shapes.

Just use the buzz phrase “climate change” and you’ll get a big fat grant, no matter what the research topic is.

I want answers. Who are these geologists? What do they know? And when did they know it? Someone is to blame here. They just can’t go off and be careless, losing tectonic plates. It’s not like they grow on trees.

Thanks BenLurkin. Catastrophism ping. Not using one of the usual ping templates because I needed to get a little fired up.

Of course. Without the abracadabra words of “climate change” these geology academics wouldn’t be able to reach their hands into the pockets of taxpayers via grants for their invented study. They’d have to find real jobs that satisfied actual demand.

QUOTE:

The earth is definitely expanding or growing. The most obvious evidence is from the seafloor ages as described by the National Geophysical Data Center and NOAA Satellite and Information Service (http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/image/crustalimages.html) It is easy to see that expansion happening all over the globe in all directions. Plate tectonics says that the Pacific is “different” in that the sea floor that is know to be growing is be eaten up (subducted) around the Pacific rim. The evidence for this is shaky at best.

Missing plates?

Old news. The plates & silverware were discovered to be missing from the White House when Clinton's minions pulled out in Jan 2001, just before the fumigators arrived.

We could move here, couldn’t we, Darks? I mean, we don’t get many trolls these days, and it would be fun to look for the Lost Plate, even though it’s ostensibly been found...

Could we? Huh?

Next thing ya know ‘they’ will tell us that the speed of light constant has slowed exponentially. I’m here ta tell ya it is not true, the slowing has not been exponential, more uniform than that as the Universe has stretched out like a tent.
