I haven't been able to get the IRS on the phone for the last several weeks. About a month ago, they were answering their phones, but for some reason, don't seem to be now. But you might try to call the number on the notice. Explain to them that you paid & you have proof. They will want you to send in the info & probably give you a fax number.
If you can't get them on the phone, is there a fax number on the notice? there might be a question sheet on about page 4 of the notice. Fill that out saying you don't owe the money. If there isn't a question page, fax in a letter of explanation with the first page of the notice & a copy of the proof of payment - the bank statement showing the auto withdrawal.
If you can't fax, then mail it in.
If you can get them on the phone, you should ask them about the stimulus check. Did you go to the IRS website & check the "Get My Payment" page? I have to say, sometimes that page works & sometimes it doesn't.
No I didn’t pay by check. They automatically withdrew it. After sitting on the phone forever I got that part taken care of. I am now sitting on the phone trying to find out about the stimulus check.

gub, I called a different number and got someone. The letter saying I owe them Tax money is all taken care of now. So she assures me. I am now waiting on hold in regards to my stimulus check.
Just got off phone with cousin in the Milpitas- San Jose area. She said sky was orange and breathing difficult. She uses an inhaler occasionally. But is using it more often. Praying for all.
It looks horrible out in CA. I hope your cousin gets some relief soon.
