A) The French authorities would have to shut down roads in Paris for Trump’s motorcade and they were not prepared to do so.
B) The Secret Service did not want to drive as they had not vetted the route
C) The drive would have taken 90 minutes each way, totally bolloxing upp the schedule, and exposing POTUS to three hours of possible security threats

Additionally, the French cannot be trusted not to abet some pretty hinky doings. I always thought there was something odd about the way things were handled when Princess Diana was killed. Why was she alive and talking at the scene and dead at the hospital? Why did things take so long? Part of that is either French incompetence or French collaboration.
