This saddens me.
Prominent people, and religious/faith/moral leaders in particular, are going to be big targets of extortion over any moral failings they may have had in their lives.
I recall there was an extortion attempt against Marcus Lamb, the TV preacher, over an affair. His wife had forgiven him, and they had worked on their marriage. It was years later that someone tried to extort millions from them to keep quiet. The Lambs decided instead to go public on their TV show about the experience. In doing so, it took the wind out of the sails of the extortionists.

Around 2011, Falwell, president of Liberty University in Virginia, and his wife, Rebecca, began personal fitness training sessions with Benjamin Crosswhite, then a 23-year-old recent Liberty graduate. Now, after a series of university real estate transactions signed by Falwell, Crosswhite owns a sprawling 18-acre racquet sports and fitness facility on former Liberty property. Last year, a local bank approved a line of credit allowing Crosswhite’s business to borrow as much as $2 million against the property.

Large (mega) ministries contain within them the seeds of their own implosions. I usually start with the tendency to keep control of them within the family.
Another is the tendency to become more and more “inclusive” of ideas and ideologies inimical to those of the original founding, e.g., in order to keep the thing large and growing.

I wish Christians would not pile on in these absurd events.
There is no practical interest on the part of Falwell’s critics to affirm marriage, fidelity, or any other significant Christian value.
This is pure Alinsky. Compel the idealist— the Christian— to conform to their own standards absolutely. When they fail, organize the public to confront and destroy the idealist.
It is absolutely fine to disagree with conduct and not make a big social media virtue signaling event out of it.
The number of Christians I have heard virtue signal on this topic is disappointing.
Do not kid yourselves— they are coming for the rejection of all Christians from the public sphere. It is NOT just Falwell Jr.
