According to a new lawsuit filed on Thursday in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, Chipotle is keeping change from customers' orders, without their permission. The rounding up on tabs in some Chipotle chain locations has quickly added up to hundreds of thousands of dollars stolen from customers.
Yikes! Lawyer Frank Salpietro said he believes this is a move by corporate bosses: It has become very clear that this is a top-down directive from the corporation, this is how they should handle the situation."
Fox News reports:
The state attorney generals office has received at least seven complaints, reports said.
Corporate bosses are likely behind the move, a lawyer told the station.
One customer in Hampton, Pa., said she received $4 change on a bill of $15.51 instead of receiving $4.49 after paying with a $20 bill, KDKA reported. A restaurant employee simply withheld the remaining 49 cents, she claimed.
Another customer, in Pine, Pa., received $11 change on a bill of $8.72 instead of receiving $11.28 after paying with a $20 bill, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.
What weve learned is that they are telling people after they order their food and give their money to the cashier that they dont have any change so they are not going to be able to give you the change, Salpietro continued.
He added that he thinks the restaurant will use the so-called national coin shortage as an excuse, but he said that he isn't buying that.
I understand that the pandemic is affecting all of us, Salpietro added. But that doesnt give Chipotle the license to line its own pockets at the expense of consumers, particularly when you hide behind a coin shortage to justify taking more money than you should.
Such actions can hurt customers who are struggling to make ends meet, according to KDKA.
There was no immediate response from the restaurant chain.
I don't see this ending well for the Mexican grill.
I wouldn’t have stopped in the first place............
fractions of a penny!...................
Walmart asks if we want to donate the change to feed somebody (can’t remember who). Nope. It might go to feed a Democrat, and we’ll have none of that. We give our change to help fund the youth group at church for their snacks, outings, etc. They collect change from the members just for that, so we all “save up”.
I know, what’s going on? QFC does not give change back. Where does the change go, back onto my debit card or into their pockets?
Woman I know with a coffee shop/ breakfast place has sign
up explaining she will round price off to
nearest dollar, up or down.
At a Dunkin Donuts I was charged 8 dollars
even for a small frozen coffee and a sausage egg and cheese.Either they formulated the price so that with tax it ends up on nearest dollar or maybe it
was $7.70 or something and they just
said “eight dollars”.
..and places like McDonald’s have signs
up asking to pay by card or exact change
due to coin shortage.A Sheetz in PA
had the same story, “there’s a coin
shortage...”
..and the coffee shop is cash only,
ATM available ($2 fee) if needed
Next time pay in coins. See what they say.
I’ve been pissed for years that Walmart has not-so-subtly been closing registers to direct shoppers to self checkout. I HATED it, but did it a couple times. Shoved in my bills, got my change, and left.
I tried last week, and the Walmart self checkout no longer accepts cash — only cards. I threw my items on a nearby flat surface and left the store.
I’m sick of this crap.
Take your hand and put it behind your back, right in the middle. Feel that hard thing there? It is called a back bone.
Now straighten up, take a deep breath, open your mouth and say, "No."
No is a two letter word that signifies refusal.
It is easy to say and the more you say it to bullies the better you will feel about yourself.
Embrace the gift of "No."
Our Wally World closes all registers at 9-10 pm and only self checkouts are left...............
That would be a problem if people don’t have or use plastic.
After 9 pm, EBT shoppers.............kinda Latino looking..............
Eenie, meenie, miney, No.
When I’m asked if I’d like to “round up”... I say “not today”... implying I’ve done it at other times. I have also said I give to other charities”...I DO NOT LIKE them asking for money for THEIR charity...I imagine many asking don’t like having to ask either.
