DAVE GROHL Argues Against Reopening Schools Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
Blabbermouth ^ | July 22, 2020 | N/A

Dave Grohl has released the first audio version of his "Dave's True Stories" series. The nine-minute episode sees the FOO FIGHTERS frontman — whose mother was a public school teacher — defending teachers amid the "daunting and evermore politicized question of reopening our schools in the coronavirus pandemic."

"Teachers are confronted with a whole new set of dilemmas that most people would not consider. There's so much more to be addressed than just opening the doors and sending [children] back home, my mother tells me on the phone," Grohl said, as per Rolling Stone. "Now 82 and retired, she runs down a list of concerns based on her 35 years of experience: Masks and distancing, temperature checks, crowded bussing, crowded hallways, sports, air-conditioning systems, lunchrooms, public restrooms, janitorial staff. Most schools already struggle from a lack of resources. How can they possibly afford the mountain of safety measures that will need to be in place?"

Earlier in the month, President Donald Trump in a series of tweets threatened to withhold federal funds from schools that don't reopen and lashed out at the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention over guidelines for reopening.

According to Grohl, the only way to avoid risking crowding students back into classrooms until the coronavirus is fully under control is to continue to offer instruction online-only.

I never liked his arrogant, I-am-the-smartest-guy-in-the-room attitude. He was the least talented guy in Nirvana and his post-Cobain output demonstrates that point.

This attitude is just what I expect from a celebrity in a HEPA-filtered isolation mansion who could care less about the financial stress of out-of-work custodial and support staff.

They never discuss the dangers/negatives if the kids DON’T go back to school.

I would rather hear Dr. Fauci’s choice of snare drums and cymbals.

Honestly, and I’d never thought I’d think this or say this—the United States has lost its way in this area and we just need to follow the lead of Europe and Asia.

All the schools in Europe and Asia have now opened up successfully. They value children and they value in-person education. They have unions too, but they are not stopping the reopening as US unions are.

We need to be brave and strong as the rest of the Western World is now in this area. We aren’t. We are wimps now! What has happened to us post WW 2!? France is more brave than we are now. They reopened schools even before they reopened stores and restaurants, in some cases. Priorities.

That's just flat-out not true.

Grohl is one of the most talented multi-instrumentalist musicians in rock history. Easily in the top ten greatest rock drummers. Yes, he's up there with Bonham, Moon, and Peart.

Drug-addled, tabloid trainwreck Cobain was the least talented member of Nirvana (as was the Doors' Jim Morrison whose antics handicapped and eclipsed his far more-talented bandmates).

And, yes, Grohl has a nice home. Being a rock star pays well.

Idle kids are more likely to go around causing trouble. Hell when I was in Wilmington and Philadelphia and there was some juvenile murdering someone or robbing a store, there wasn’t any surprise to finding out that the kid doing the crime was either skipping school like Ferris Bueller or was playing around while being suspended from school because the parent or parents didn’t care.

Well, I don't see this mouthy POS sharing his pile with the janitors, bus drivers and other support staff.

He can zip his punk mouth, and just drum for us.

“They never discuss the dangers/negatives if the kids DON’T go back to school.”
*******************************************

And the fact, to a near certainty based upon what we know now, that those dangers/negatives hugely outweigh any that come from full reopening.

An idle mind is the devil’s playground. It’s pretty common that a kid who was doing some serious trouble or criminal activity was skipping school or on suspension while they were doing it. Now imagine not having school in session, and how much worse it could become with many children and teens not needing to report into school.

They never discuss the dangers/negatives if the kids DON’T go back to school.

The New York Times now fears that "privileged" parents will band together and organize their children into "learning pods" where they'll academically surpass "less privileged" children whose parents are doing no such thing.

Seriously.

The Latest in School Segregation: Private Pandemic ‘Pods’. If they become the norm, less privileged kids will suffer.

Did he write most of the songs?

No. Grohl is credited with helping write only two Nirvana songs, one of which was "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Their bigget hit.

Now, how many truly great songs did Nirvana really have? Let's be honest. Not that many.

How many hit songs has Grohl been a part of?

Foo Fighters, QOTSA, Vultures... The success of Dave Grohl's career has long ago eclipsed that of Kurt Cobain who, truthfully, became a generational icon primarily because he blew his brains out.

So Jim died.

How well did The Doors do after that point?

I disagree.

Yes, Cobain was an addict and all that. But his songwriting and presence effectively not only drove Nirvana to stardom but helped launch a genre. Grohl's contributon is miniscule in comparison and he'd be nowhere without Kurt and Novoselic.

His drumming wasn't integral to the genre - Matt Cameron, Dave Abbruzzese, and Sean Kinney did more for the genre than Dave. He ranks up there with the drummers for AC/DC and Judas Priest as guys who held down a beat behind a great band. That isn't a bad thing - those bands didn't need an above average drummer either. But please...Bonham and Moon and Pearl are ground-breaking drummers who continue to influence beyond the grave. Grohl's drumming highlight reel consists of a single stroke roll in Teen Spirit and his dotted eighth and sixteenth note snare pattern. That's cool...but not ground-breaking.

Foo Fighters' 7MM in domestic album sales is more albums than I've sold, and is in a league with AALIYAH, ARIANA GRANDE, CASTING CROWNS, CINDERELLA, DOLLY PARTON, GEORGE WINSTON and GOO GOO DOLLS. That's respectable, but not revolutionary like that other drummer/solo guy Phil Collins' 33.5MM units (Phil is also a better drummer and even non-drummers know In The Air Tonigh...who is air-drumming Grohl?)

I have no class warfare animosity and millionaires are all right by me. But this "I'm down with being safe at all costs" jackwad's mindset needs to be contrast with his environment. It seems it is the affluent liberals who push shutdown, and don't care that their fear is being soothed by the balm of 30MM unemployed poor and minority service workers.
