It reminds me of the release of most of the opposition sixth grade girls who pitched against my daughter's team. (I insisted that anyone on my team could pitch if they could pitch from the rubber. This led to a number of rather big arguments when I asked the older kids who umped if they would enforce the rule about pitching from the rubber!)

I can’t not believe the drawings are rigged.
In the Washington Bullets championship season I had the use of a season ticket from one of our suppliers and MY number was drawn for the Million dollar shot from halfcourt at halftime.
That was in my drinking days (any excuse is a good one) and I launched one in the general direction of the basket and missed the whole ‘gymnasium’.
The 3 of us whose #s were drawn were also ‘allowed’ to try a layup which I made and received a hamburger.
I (also) blamed street shoes for the missed shot but the ‘sharp’ ones who bothered to listen to and paying attention to my story correctly pointed out that the shoes had less effect on a ‘flatted footed’ shot from halfcourt than a ‘driving lay up’.
Oh well!!

I’m partial to them because my Daddy grew up in DC, and they were his team - I used to watch the games with him, and I can still hear, in my mind, the sound of the games over the radio as he would listen in the Summer nights.
(When he was a kid, he named his Collie Dog ‘Bucky Harris’. I’m saving that name for my dog.)
I ordered a Washington Senators hat last year, when the Nationals were in the Series. When I received it, I realized that it was no different from the Nationals’ hats today.
(At least they have a name that’s not likely to be declared verboten under the current zeitgeist.)
