NORTH CHICAGO, IL The city of North Chicago is is leaning on a seldom used state law that allows them to recall retired officers during an emergency situation.
The city believes that it has hit that emergency threshold to invoke the law.
The North Chicago Police Department was unable to adequately staff their 9-1-1 dispatch center, which they subsequently closed. The city argued that at one point prior to the closing, they were only able to have six employees to cover the call center around the clock, seven days a week.

So, the Pension Board can’t meet because of covid 19, but disabled pensioners can be called back to service? There’s something wrong with this picture.

Never heard of No. Chicago and I lived in Chicago. How can they expect disabled who don’t live there to work. Hire people.

the city decided to shut the center down in 2018 as a cost-saving measure. They consolidated their operations with a dispatch center in Mundelein. That consolidation was finalized in June of this year.So they couldn't staff a center they were in the process of shutting down? Therefore, it's an emergency that retirees have to cover for free.
Gee, I'd love to see the actual wording of the state law and the retiree's retirement/separation verbiage.

I’ve never heard of it either and I’m from the area, too.

In the article, they go on to say the city attorney said these three disabled officers had already used $3.8 million in benefits (they are on the younger side of retirement). So, he said, the least they can do is cover for a few shifts while paying for their own moves and living expenses while having to fill in.
Wow. Just wow.

North Chicago is just south of Waukegan and Gurnee. That’s where the Great Lakes Naval Training Center is. It’s a craphole even compared to Waukegan.

You signed a contract with that provision in it, certified by your union and the Democrat leaders you voted for. Figure it out and get back there.

The city is running out of money, so they want to stop paying retired police their pension.
