“This is the city that I got hurt protecting, mind you. I understand they have to run the city, but …. even if I wanted to go back, I’m still disabled. I’m still 1,400 miles away. What do you expect me to do?”

Folks, flee every hard core liberal-run city, county, or state.

When crud starts rolling downhill, it’s already too late.

Starve the beast and save your health!

So, the Pension Board can’t meet because of covid 19, but disabled pensioners can be called back to service? There’s something wrong with this picture.

Never heard of No. Chicago and I lived in Chicago. How can they expect disabled who don’t live there to work. Hire people.

the city decided to shut the center down in 2018 as a cost-saving measure. They consolidated their operations with a dispatch center in Mundelein. That consolidation was finalized in June of this year.

So they couldn't staff a center they were in the process of shutting down? Therefore, it's an emergency that retirees have to cover for free.

Gee, I'd love to see the actual wording of the state law and the retiree's retirement/separation verbiage.

Hey, where's your loyalty and pride in your city? Come on back, so we can throw rocks and bottles and bullets at you!

We need you!

We hate you!

We need you!

we hate you!

You signed a contract with that provision in it, certified by your union and the Democrat leaders you voted for. Figure it out and get back there.

The city is running out of money, so they want to stop paying retired police their pension.

The reason why tcities are so eager to go along with defunding the police and letting prisoners out of jail because of “covid” is because they are bankrupt, and this is giving them cover to cut their budgets.

Public sector pensions are the reason Illinois is insolvent. The pension negotiations are never arms length transactions and it's always more, more, more. When the states, counties and munis try to rework the pension schemes, the unions scream that they have a contract and refuse to concede. The state, counties and munis then borrow to make up the shortfall. When they raise taxes folks leave.

The only option left is system failure. And we're close.

In my opinion 90% of disability claims are scams. Probably 99% of government employees.

I’m still 1,400 miles away.

Older Democrat economies are bleeding out to places like Florida. There's little Democrats can do to slow the escape of their tax base.

North Chicago just received a 750k grant to hire 3 more officers, community outreach etc. Staffing will be at highest level in years.

Considering the ex-cop that was living next door to me on fraudelent full pension disability, I have to laugh. Disability is a well known scam on PDs and FDs.

This stuff started in the 1950-1960’s. I worked for two railroads as a brakeman and later a conductor in two summers, and two thanksgiving and Christmas and during semester breaks. I made more money as a brakeman/conductor than I did while working as a college grad for a major company in 1960.

I joined the Navy reserves in 1961 and served the active duty and later 3 years active reserve for 6+ years.

After the active duty, two friends with one of the railroads offered me a great deal. I could return with the previous work counting as seniority and the active Navy time as seniority/time towards retirement. I could have been eligible for a railroad pension before I was 50 years old, the state fire department and a Navy reserve retirement.

Due to federal firefighting skills/2 summers before my Railroad time, I could have worked 3- 12 hour shifts per week as full time as a fireman for brush and forest fires and 20 years towards retirement including the 2 years active duty Navy time.

Being a Viet Nam era vet, I was eligible to get my MBA with basically no cost to me, which I did. That would have enabled me to teach at a state college for another paycheck and retirement.

14 more years in the Navy reserve would have qualified me another retirement.

WTF??? These cops aren’t in the military, and they’re disabled. They might also be getting Social Security disability and Medicare if they filed for it when they retired. Depending on their disability, they could have been eligible for it. The politicians of Chicago aren’t doctors. If a doctor says these guys can’t work...the City can’t force the issue or penalize them if they refuse. If they need someone to man the phones, pull in some of those politicians who sit on their asses doing nothing, but get a paycheck.

North Chicago is a veritable shithole.. largely black, blighted and thoroughly corrupt.

I am afraid this will happen to my brothers and sisters of the NYPD. The rush to retire may cause the city to invoke a law that allows it to refuse to let cops retire.
