The black birdwatcher who had police called on him by a white woman in a viral video clip in New York's Central Park has refused to cooperate with the Manhattan District Attorneys investigation into the incident. Amy Cooper, 41, was branded 'Central Park Karen' in May after she was caught on cell phone video telling cops that she was being threatened by Christian Cooper, 57, after he asked her to put her dog on a leash. Ms Cooper was charged with falsely reporting an incident in the third degree on Monday.

The statement he made after the encounter was exactly the same. He thought the punishment of loosing he job was too much. That she had been punished enough.

Dog was surrendered back to the shelter from which she had adopted it within 2 days of the video surfacing. Implication was that they requested the surrender but the statement by the center was intentionally vague.

Not likely. Hes a black, gay, Harvard grad, writer, lives in NY, sister is a playwright who describes him as an activist. Hes any dem all the way. But at least he isnt a totally vindictive dem, as the mob seems to have become.

According to Wikipedia, and also an article in the National Reveiw, he did the following: , “Look, if you’re going to do what you want, I’m going to do what I want, but you’re not going to like it,” and beckoned the dog toward him with a dog treat.
Feeding someones dog and saying, Youre not going to like it, could easily be understood as a threat to ham the dog, and a jury may well interpret it that way. I would feel threatened if someone were to feed my dog without my permission while saying something like that. She should not have let her dog run free, but his comments suggest that the incident may not have been racial.

I hadn't been following the story and didn't know any of that. Wish I'd have avoided reading the post above this thread now. ;)

Youre not going to like it, could easily be understood as a threat to ham the dogOr, if a man confronts a woman alone in a park, and says what he said, then beckons the dog with a treat, it could seem to the woman as if he's getting the dog out of the way to attack her. That's not about "race," but about any man confronting a woman alone in a park.
Of course, that wasn't his intention. And she should've had her dog on a leash. But, instead of beckoning her dog away from her, maybe he should've reported her to the police for letting her dog run loose.

I’m glad that, in all of the posts so far, no one has referred to a birdwatcher as a birder. I’ve also seen birdwatchers referred to as twitchers.

Interesting that they are both surnamed Cooper.

"According to a report that I read, he threatened to poison her dog. If that comes out in court, it could ruin the case against her, reverse the narrative, and make him look bad."
Spot On......
Just found an interview where the interviewer ask him about his facebook post. He provoke this response. Not knowing this practice of bird watchers giving a dog a treat to prove a point, I would have reacted in a negative way as a dog owner too. He stated: "
I'm going to do what I want", then pulls out treat is a direct threat.
NPR interview that will get him sued
This is why he will not cooperate, most likely he is following his lawyers advise. His facebook post and NPR interview has in legal trouble now.
C COOPER: Yes. Exactly. Yeah. I basically told her, look. If you're going to do what you want, I'm going to do what I want. And then at that point, I pulled out a bag of treats that I carry - dog treats.
CHANG: And why do you carry dog treats while you're out birding?
C COOPER: Because when I'm out birding - exactly. Why would I, a non-dog walker, carry dog treats? Because over the years, that has proven the most effective way to get a recalcitrant dog owner to put their dog on the leash because they don't like it when a stranger feeds their dog treats.

I was hoping for a fairy tale romance between the two Coopers
but he’d need to first drop his fixation on other men’s poopers.

According to a report that I read, he threatened to poison her dog.
He offered to give the dog an actual treat...because people get suspicious and leave of their own accord. He made no threat.

Offering a dog a treat is not a threat. A lot of postal carriers carry dog treats for when they encounter a dog that is acting agressivly in order to gain their trust.

Shes got a top attorney who expected to win her case once the entire story came out....about the guy trying to lure her dog with dog treats and telling her she wouldnt like what he was going to do.
He is not giving her a chance to be vindicated in her fear.
