He carries dog treats with him while bird watching in the Brambles section of Central Park as he’s often encountered other people with unleashed dogs which is not allowed there and with numerous signs posted.

Pretty much what every mailman carries with him on his route as dogs are totally controlled by their stomach. Give a dog a biscuit and he’s your friend for life.

Agreed she acted stupid and has already lost her job and been beyond publicly humiliated.. This should be a teachable moment... not a federal case. This guy seems far more decent than most these days.

I sense a potential limerick here.

"Offering a dog a treat is not a threat" In the dog owner eyes it was.

Postal Carrier are not complete strangers and do not make threating statements like below. Dog owners threat their dog like their child, would you let a stranger give your child a treat in the park.

It could be taken as a threat when he say this then pull the treat out a threat. To me that sounds like: watch me poison your dog then.

She will sue in court for libel. They have his interview and facebook post where they could get ajury to side with her. That is wide he will not work with the police department to press charges.

"C COOPER: Yes. Exactly. Yeah. I basically told her, look. If you're going to do what you want, I'm going to do what I want. And then at that point, I pulled out a bag of treats that I carry - dog treats."

From another damming interview of the bird watcher:

ME: Look, if you’re going to do what you want, I’m going to do what I want, but you’re not going to like it.

HER: What’s that?

ME (to the dog): Come here, puppy!

HER: He won’t come to you.

ME: We’ll see about that…

I pull out the dog treats I carry for just for such intransigence. I didn’t even get a chance to toss any treats to the pooch before Karen scrambled to grab the dog.

HER: DON’T YOU TOUCH MY DOG!!!!!

"but you're not going to like it": Is this a threat?

I think a good lawyer can prove libel here.

“Plus he’s filming her”

I did not think about that angle: Today filming is a threat (nonverbal: I will put this on social media and destroy your life) This is happening all the time now.

He is turning the other cheek and not being vindictive. It is an honorable thing to do. Kudos to him.

Either he’s very gracious, or he’s afraid further investigation will somehow implicate or uncover something he’s done. Let’s hope it’s the former. I’m tired of humanity disgusting me.

Yep

It was certainly a veiled threat. She took it as such and he has admitted as much.

They both screwed up and have owned up to their parts.
Let us and the courts leave them alone.

You’d think the Manhattan DA’s office would have more important cases to pursue.

If he stated that the reason why he is doing this is because she probably reads the same daily news stories that he does unfortunately and does not blame her for her actions.
“I am embarrassed by my AA culture.”

THAT would give him 1000 bonus points..

He is doing a decent thing now but at first he sounded creepy. She shouldn’t have threatened the way she did regardless.

Thanks for the replay of the whole incident. It almost seemed like he was threatening the dog or that a person could take it that way. She shouldn’t have brought race into it but he sounded like he was going to do something to the dog.

She was breaking a rule...one that really did not effect the other, except may dog poop on the ground. A person she did not know, said she was not going to like this, and he attempted to feed her dog. A threat, or being clever? She called the cops. Cops investigate, it was an unadulterated dog treat...I used to run and it was a clever way to turn a bunch of yard protecting pooches into mooches...at that moment in time she did not know it was unadulterated. He made a clever comment to her, and a reasonable person could assume it was tainted, chocolate, exlax...whatever. A reasonable cop would yell at both of them and tell them both to get lost, in a good world. Her intent was not to screw with him, but she was not following the rules, a VERY minor rule. His intent was to screw with her. He used a VERY minor rule to do that. She’s ruined. Probably not his intent, but his outcome. He’s responsible, but not an ogre. He wants to drop it, and good for him. If he does it again, not so good. Actions and intent count. So does the golden rule.

He should proceed with the investigation and file the complaint. She’ll do it again and the next man will not have a camera to document the event will end up in jail for a long time.
