CHINA Forestry officials in China have found a 1900-year-old pine tree.
The ancient evergreen is six stories tall and has a hollowed-out trunk, big enough to allow seven people to stand inside.
The discovery was made in the Sichuan province in southwest China.
Despite its old age and hollow trunk, foresters say its healthy and has lush foliage.
Chinese officials expect it to become a local tourist attraction, but they will also do their best to protect it.
Although ancient, it cannot lay claim to the worlds oldest living tree. That record, according to Science Daily, belongs to a 9500-year-old spruce in Sweden.

these are hard to believe... a hollowed out pine will not last much longer...
9500 year old spruce needs documentation... all living things have an expiration... trees are no different. consequentially there are no “old” forrests... they are forever changing.

    From wikipedia:
"Old Tjikko is a 9,550 year-old Norway Spruce, located on Fulufjället Mountain of Dalarna province in Sweden. Old Tjikko originally gained fame as the "world's oldest tree."[1] Old Tjikko is, however, a clonal tree that has regenerated new trunks, branches and roots over millennia rather than an individual tree of great age. Old Tjikko is recognized as the oldest living Picea abies and the third oldest known clonal tree."

Thanks Red Badger. If only Euell Gibbons were alive to see it.

I considered it. But I was curious about the demographic here, plus, it's another excuse to sing [singing] if Euell knew Gibbons, like we know Gibbons...

BTW, despite the levity, I like this article and topic a lot. I'm also a little impressed by the fact that it comes from Everything Lubbock.

Kinda weirdo sidebar, from a recollection of my high school days: King Xerxes encountered a vast hollow plane tree (sycamore) with an interal cavity so large a nice dinner party was ordered inside the tree.
