Named Kampecaris obanensis, the prehistoric millipede lived during the Silurian period, about 425 million years ago.
The ancient creature was a small (2-3 cm in length), short-bodied animal with three recognizable sections.
It likely lived near a lake in a semi-arid forested environment and ate decomposing plants.
Its fossilized remains were unearthed on the island of Kerrera in the Scottish Inner Hebrides.
The specimen is about 75 million years younger than the age other paleontologists have estimated the oldest millipede to be using a technique known as molecular clock dating.
The oldest fossil of a land-dwelling, stemmed plant, Cooksonia, has the same age as Kampecaris obanensis and is also from Scotland...
Bountiful bug deposits have been dated to just 20 million years later than the fossils.

So that’s where John Bolton came from !
Not a bug. Not even an insect. Sad to come from a source that calls itself “Science News”.
Isnt bug a catch all term? Doesnt have to mean insect does it?
It’s not a bug, it’s a creature!.................
I call shrimp “sea bugs” and “sea insects”.
Wait until they find the Brain Bug.
Mmmmm....lobsters, the living, but quickly dying in boiling water, fossil.

It’s a near miracle that any fossil exists at all. Nature usually disposes the carcasses very efficiently. Natures is filled with scavengers that gobble up every last bit. To become a fossil, a critter has to die, not get eaten by scavengers long enough to be covered by the correct material and left long enough for the right kind of minerals to replace the flesh and bone. How does that actually happen in every day nature? It’s got to be nearly impossible to happen but yet is did. Imagine how many things from the past could have vanished without a trace in the fossil record.
Its not a bug, its a creature!.................
Or as they say in today’s world...
Its not a bug, its a feature!.................
A “true” bug is an insect in the order Hemiptera. It is a term that is applied incorrectly by most non scientists (entomologist) and even some common names are misused. A ladybug is actually a beetle. A bed bug is a bug. When writing the name, if it is not a true bug it is written as one word. A true bug’s name should be written as two words. Another example is firefly(a beetle) and house fly (a real fly). Enough trivia.
