The CA study was based on a test with a 90% accuracy (bad) and that also gave positives for other corona viruses that were common cold caliber. It was a junk study and the links didn’t work anymore last I checked, so it looks like they pulled it.

I wonder if this NY study is by the same group with the same junk. Doesn’t say in the article and if Cuomo is touting it, you know there is a political motivation, anyway.

Still, even if accurate and precise, that leaves over 85% of NYers overall and nearly 80% in NYC still at risk.

CA’s study’s numbers with the junk test were a lot lower, though, at around 2 to 4%, IIRC.

In neither case is that anywhere near the numbers needed for herd immunity, but it won’t stop the FluBros from trying to use it to downplay the lethality. At least they’re bargaining. That’s progress.

I will have to find the estimate for Ca, I am thinking it real high compare to New York.

There have been a couple antibody studies in CA. The one in Santa Clara County found 1.5% of 3300 people had antibodies, in California's supposed "ground zero". In LA they tested 900 people and found 4.1% with antibodies. It makes sense that NY would be much, much higher than anywhere in CA.

I would take all of these antibody studies with a grain of salt. I don't trust these tests that have been rushed out, and some of the more capable "big pharma" companies have held back on releasing AB tests due to high false positives when sensitivity is high enough to reduce false negatives to an acceptable level. When actual population with antibodies is in the low single digits, you need better than 99% confidence in your positive results without producing false positives.

It’s the soap that kills the virus by destroying the lipid envelope. Not the heat.

Heh, I now have the new worry of a nice big chunk of filling falling out of a molar. While I was eating a “dunked-in-milk” graham cracker!

A lot of the dentists around here are presently offering only emergency services. What good timing... /s

How the heck does one get worked on @ the dentist safely? I guess if the dentist and his / her staff are super careful, their and my risk can be reduced somewhat...

I also noticed that temporary dental cement is not in stock at places like Wal-Mart. Makes sense... A couple local stores say they have it in-store - looks like an unplanned trip to town, tomorrow. Might as well make up the needed supplies list, too.

I have seen multiple stories saying you need to put your clothes through the dryer.

Most people use soap when they wash their clothes

This is why I am not understanding these various stories

Washing hands is to wash away the virus, not to kill it - although the soap should dissolve the outer membrane and render it inert. In theory the same rule should apply to clothes but laundry soap is not used in the same concentrations as hand soap. The mechanics of your washer will be different from the mechanics of washing your hands, too, leaving your clothes soaking much of the time rather than a scrub and hard rinse.

Wear a lot of durable fabrics and add bleach to every wash.

Or, perhaps the disposable paper clothing industry may make a comeback.

We are using NAC in our research specifically because it is the feedstock for cysteine in the sulfur cycle. NAC is critical for one side of the cycle for production of glutathione and then glutathione peroxidase. This is one of three different pathways for the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavengers. The other two are cysteamine and hypotaurine.

I posted a couple articles back at the beginning of this on NAC. It has been used for treatment of ventilator dependent patients suffering cytokine storms. The dose was quite high (IV). The best I can tell those studies had not been followed up on. That is very typical of medical research.

My wife and I practice what our findings show. We take NAC daily as well as pantehtine. Pantethine is the disulfide bond of pantetheine (NOT B5). This converts (safely) to cysteamine and then hypotaurine. We also add taurine to our daily regiment. Taurine is not an ROS scavenger, however it is critical for muscle related metabolism. Taurine is produced down stream of hypotaurine.

Whole eggs are a useful food for increasing cysteine pools.

JM2C. YMMV.

Depending on the infection rate where you live, it’s probably worth the risk. Dental infections probably carry higher risk than CV19. I was surprised a few days ago when my doctor’s office called me to confirm an appointment. I was sure I was not “essential”. I went in and was treated. Empty waiting room, no wait, no interns in the room. Just me and the doc. In and out in 15 minutes. There were no CV patients in the building I was in, so it seemed like a reasonable risk. The only “oops” was finding out during the appointment that my doctor works at a drive through CV19 test site once a week...

Yikes, that’s not good. Maybe the soap makes the virus more vulnerable (destroying lipid layer)

That study has been "misinterpreted" since it was published. That was for laboratories and not the wild. It failed to confirm or deny the temperature range and times for more established studies of MERs and SARs.

The other studies tested to a range where the RNA was not detectable. This study somehow keeps referring to "viral replication" outside a host animal or cell culture. I will wait till a pier review of the study is conducted.

I have the study somewhere. I found it to be a bit lacking and the reporters to be both ignorant and alarmist.

Also there was other problems with both the Chinese test kits used and major conflict of interests on the part of the authors.

So if I put soap in the washer and let is set for an hour shouldnt it render the virus inert?

I have been washing my clothes and thought that was good enough.

So when I put them in the dryer, in theory, I could get the virus?

There are a few different emergency repair kits on Amazon.

Dentemp Repair Kit containing: Maximum Strength Dental Cement, Refilit Lost Filling Repair, Recap-It Loose Caps, 1 Kit (Packaging May Vary)

There are mixed reviews on it. I think it has more to do with the dental emergency and quality of buildup on crowns. Best.
