The Covid-19 shutdowns have been based on the premise that the disease would kill more than two million Americans absent drastic actions to slow its spread. That model assumed case fatality rates - the share of infected people who die from the disease - of 1% to 3%. The World Health Organizations estimated case-fatality rate was 3.4%.
Some experts - including in these pages - have questioned this assumption. They argue that known cases are likely only a small portion of the true number of infections, and thus high case-fatality rates could be off by orders of magnitude. We dont know what portion of infections have gone undetected for a lack of tests, restrictive qualifications to get tested, and a potentially large incidence of mild illness or asymptomatic infection.
New data support the skeptics view - a preliminary study by a Stanford team, released Friday. They conducted a seroprevalence study of Santa Clara County, Calif., on April 3 and 4. They studied a representative sample of 3,300 residents to test for the presence of antibodies in their blood that would show if they had previously been infected with the novel coronavirus.

I believe I had it in late February. I thought I had the worst cold I had ever had for 2 weeks. Took another 2 weeks for the cough to go away. Dang thing also gave me pink eye.
I read somewhere that pink eye can be a COVID-19 symptom. Know about that?
Do you have pink eye?
Asking for your neighbors ;-)
39,000 Americans dead in 1 month.
5.3% of known cases and still rising.
Just red eyes from lack of sleep. I don’t think i’ve had COVID-19. If i did it would have to have been minimally symptomatic.
Be great to have twice as many flu deaths every year wouldn’t it?
But if China had been open about the outbreak we could have done less “social distancing”.
Heck, it may have even been stopped there!
Please tell us how many Americans have died from the economic devastation the panicked politicians have caused due to their hysterical overreaction.
Try some allergy eye drops, or something like Systane drops. And, get some sleep!
Yes I do. I spoke to a nurse today about my symptoms and she agreed that I probably had it. Waiting to take the anti-body test.
I’m only aware of one teen who committed suicide, and it was only speculated that it might have been coronavirus related. It’s not like teens don’t commit suicide when there’s no coronavirus.
But it wasn’t an ‘hysterical’ reaction, it was an ‘uninformed’ reaction.
We didn’t know.
The exponential spread was all we knew of. We stopped that so our healthcare system wasn’t overwhelmed. If it had been...
Anyway people should quit arguing. Quarantining may have saved us by saving our healthcare system, but it has done it’s job and it’s time to move on.

Mr Streeck is a professor for virology and the director of the Institute of virology and HIV Research at the University Bonn. He explained the methodology of his new study in Heinsberg, the epicentre of Germanys COVID-19 outbreak, and talked about potential plans for a country to move forward gradually in getting back to a normal life.
These research findings have already provided some indication on how the virus works, as Streeck clarified:
There is no significant risk of catching the disease when you go shopping. Severe outbreaks of the infection were always a result of people being closer together over a longer period of time, for example the après- ski parties in Ischgl, Austria. He could also not find any evidence of living viruses on surfaces. When we took samples from door handles, phones or toilets it has not been possible to cultivate the virus in the laboratory on the basis of these swabs

Most of those 39,000 has serious existing maladies. They died WITH covid-19, not necessarily because of it. They had one foot in the grave and other on a banana peel. Why blame the banana peel.
And the current numbers have been cooked !!!!!
like most Americans have known all along.
Sure, if you are talking about a flu that kills 40,000 Americans in a 1 month period. As I understand it, last years flu took six months to do that.
