Mortality isn’t the biggie with this virus.

Morbidity is.

What percent of the population under 60 will require more serious medical intervention. Survive yes. But after spending 3 or 4 weeks out of work.

We know a healthy mid 30something. she plays tennis. Her BMI is (was) in the low 20’s. Never smoked, no underlying health issues.

This thing kicked her butt.

She was sick for three WEEKS, lost 30lbs that she didn’t have to lose and even nearly 2 months now AFTER she contracted it (yay, mardi gras!) she still doesn’t have her sense of smell or taste. She’s had the flu several times. She said this was definitely NOT the flu.

imagine what it will do to a 45 or 50yr old that’s on blood pressure meds and 50lbs overweight...

She’s lucky in that her job will always be held for her. Think Della Street.

Rapid test at a doctor’s office, like flu swabs are now, with easily obtainable HCQ/etc to be taken BEFORE hospitalization becomes a necessity is how we restart things.

I woke up to see that China is running its mouth again, warning us to restore funding to the WHO.

One of our idiot Democrat senators seems to agree with them.

I have really had it with Leftists.

This virus is bad enough, but at least it’s honest. Cannot say the same for a very large number of human beings.

I know who you are referring to, and I had my own run in with that one.

Arrogant, obnoxious and annoying. Thinks it’s God’s gift to everyone. I’m glad I’m not married to it. Real glad.

I hope that nothing happened to it or its family, despite my not liking it at all.

The IL6 drug availability likely has more to do with when they use it.

Probably MIC, or made elsewhere with MIC ingredients.

IMHO this is why hospitals have shut down non essential procedures. lack of stuff to do them with. We’ll see if, when we reopen, they start doing those procedures again.

Cattle panels are perfect for the long beans. They’re pretty much the only thing that will hold them up for the duration of the summer at my house. They take down all other fencing by August/Sept LOL.

I don’t hoop them, I use Tposts. I assemble it such that the bottom of the cattle panel is about 12-15” off the ground. Gives me extra space upside for them. Although I have to take a step stool with me to pick them later on.

Tell us how you’ll hoop it if you get a chance, I’ve wanted to do that but haven’t had ideas for a while.

Hubby and I have lost a total combined 300+lbs since we started low carbing about 15 years ago. Neither of us are thin now but we’re not obese either. Just plain old overweight now.

We were the blobs in walmart. Although we had too much self respect to use the carts, we saved those for people with genuine medical needs.

I dont know. The protocol of the hospital- posted yesterday..dont know where.. was to give it before intubation as per Dr but they changed it. He thought due to cost. It is an expensive drug...but could also be availability.

The texags Dr Marcus had help from one of the site members to get in touch with Genentech to give his patient the drug.

SWEDEN
Sweden has passed the grim milestone of 1,000 coronavirus deaths, far exceeding the tolls of its nearest neighbours, but suggested it may be nearing the outbreak’s peak as scientists continue to question the government’s light-touch approach.

The Public Health Agency announced a death toll of 1,203 people from Covid-19 on Wednesday, a rate of 101 per million inhabitants, compared to 51 in Denmark and just 11 in Finland, both of which imposed strict early lockdowns to curb the virus’s spread.

RUSSIA Moscow closes its first clinic due to an outbreak of COVID-19 The chief physician is on a ventilator, and many locals think she’s to blame for spreading coronavirus 10:28 pm, April 13, 2020 Over the weekend, Moscow officials closed the central outpatient clinic for the Mitino District, where local residents now fear a new outbreak of coronavirus. Outpatient Clinic № 180 is now being decontaminated from top to bottom and the facility’s chief physician was placed on a ventilator on Saturday. Staff will be allowed to return to work only after mass testing. This is the first time Moscow has had to close an entire clinic because of the coronavirus epidemic. Elsewhere in the city, admission and hospitalization at the Blokhin Oncology Center are still suspended because of concerns about COVID-19’s spread. All operations at Outpatient Clinic № 180 are “suspended up to and including April 20, 2020,” reads a sign posted at the building’s entrance. “The clinic is being decontaminated,” a security guard at the gates told Meduza. “The building was shut down because some ‘wiseguy’ patient came in, already infected [with coronavirus]. Every floor he was on is now quarantined for two weeks,” explained an operator at the clinic’s telephone hotline https://meduza.io/en/feature/2020/04/14/moscow-closes-its-first-clinic-due-to-an-outbreak-of-covid-19

SWITZERLAND
As at Wednesday, April 15th, Switzerland’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 stand at 26,000 an increase of just under 300 from Tuesday.

The rise low number of new cases - with less than 300 new cases across each of the past four days - has given rise to hope that the country’s social distancing measures are having a positive effect.

The news was not all good however, with 35 new deaths seeing the fatality toll rise to 1,183 on the basis .

We already saw a study like this back in Feb? March? but here is a newer one:

Cells. RNA-seq Profiling of Human Testes Reveals the Presence of the ACE2 Receptor, A Target for SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Spermatogonia, Leydig and Sertoli Cells

In December 2019, a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was identified in COVID-19 patients in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. SARS-CoV-2 shares both high sequence similarity and the use of the same cell entry receptor, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV). Several studies have provided bioinformatic evidence of potential routes of SARS-CoV-2 infection in respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive and urinary systems. However, whether the reproductive system is a potential target of SARS-CoV-2 infection has not yet been determined. Here, we investigate the expression pattern of ACE2 in adult human testes at the level of single-cell transcriptomes. The results indicate that ACE2 is predominantly enriched in spermatogonia and Leydig and Sertoli cells. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) indicates that Gene Ontology (GO) categories associated with viral reproduction and transmission are highly enriched in ACE2-positive spermatogonia, while male gamete generation related terms are downregulated. Cell-cell junction and immunity-related GO terms are increased in ACE2-positive Leydig and Sertoli cells, but mitochondria and reproduction-related GO terms are decreased. These findings provide evidence that the human testis is a potential target of SARS-CoV-2 infection, which may have significant impact on our understanding of the pathophysiology of this rapidly spreading disease.
