I would like to go back to the topic of Zinc deficiency.

I think India is going to have a rough time with this due to low animal protein diets and high plant related consumption. Some of the best work to date on zinc deficiency and Type 2 diabetes has come out of India.

Evaluation of Serum Zinc Status and Glycated Hemoglobin of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Assam

Effects of zinc supplementation on diabetes mellitus: a systematic review and meta-analysis

We keep seeing negative outcomes based on a seemingly unrelated set of comorbidity. All of the listed from high BMI, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension to cardiac issues are related to metabolic syndrome, elevated HbA1c and zinc deficiency.

Even coronary heart disease may be associated by zinc urinary loss.

Association of Reduced Zinc Status With Angiographically Severe Coronary Atherosclerosis: A Pilot Study

Metabolic syndrome is associated with numerous pathologies.

Metabolic syndrome: a closer look at the growing epidemic and its associated pathologies.

Metabolic syndrome has been studied extensively since the 1990s. A current paper explores an isocaloric shift from carbohydrates to fat in the diet. Jeff Volek has done substantial work in the past and I respect his scholarship.

Dietary carbohydrate restriction improves metabolic syndrome independent of weight loss

Now back to COVID-19 syndrome and zinc deficiency. I think many emerging treatment options are missing the proper zinc supplement. I have posted before about Zinc Picolinate. I think any supplement at this point is important, however picolinate provides for better intercellular absorption.

Finally, a simple review of zinc and zinc picolinate.

Zinc Picolinate

“Actually , I believe in freedom . I like to look at all sides. Does your comment mean I am “banned”. That would be very leftist of you. Also, am I a “troll” if I disagree ? That would be lunacy. So many apparently are driven by their fear. Sad. Many need to abandon their weakness and be strong . Life is risky . Deal with it.”

You are just here to stir the pot, that’s what makes you a troll, not whether you disagree or agree. Your self-reported behavior puts others at risk. Apparently you justify that with some degree of fatalism. That’s extraordinarily selfish, to impose your views on others against their wills. How leftist of you.

How many people a day is Big Pharma and WHO killing because the are pressuring politicians, Google and Facebook to downplay use of cheap, available vitamins like Vitamin D and Vitamin C, just so they can focus on big money with vaccines and new drugs? Also insisting that clinical trials ought to be held for off patent, modestly priced drugs like hydrochloroquine that they also won’t make a fortune on. Even though the degree of safety vs. side effects is well known.

That’s weird. Or maybe I am. I always work my fingertips into the opposite hands’ palms right when I start off (sanitizing or washing hands.) Maybe that’s because I do so much stuff that gets gunk under my nails and when handwashing, unconsciously figure the 1st thing to do is get soapy water in there to start it working... It (carrying over to sanitizer) just seems the natural thing to do.

Maybe there should be instructional vids for sanitizer use? Somebody could have sneezed on those bananas, you know...

(In fact, during my last Wal-Mart grocery run a few days ago, there was a woman (no mask) near the bananas who let out a pretty good sort of cough / sneeze, about 90 deg. to me. I was at least 15’ away, with my N95 & prefilter, so I figured no big deal for me, but everyone else (5 people?) within 10-20’ had no mask. They shrank away like Putin had dusted her w/ polonium.)

Someone who is asymptomatic shouldn’t need CV unless they develop harsh symptoms, because asymptomatics are already developing antibodies.

Finally, a simple review of zinc and zinc picolinate.

You may be on to something. I was wondering why zinc sulfate, instead of zinc picolinate, myself. My niece had the HCQ regimen without any zinc at all. And I've read some reports which say we get enough zinc in our food and additional zinc isn't necessary.

IIRC, the recommended zinc sulfate daily dosage for the HCQ cocktail was 220mg. That's six times the daily recommended DV. Doubt we're getting that much in our food.

Obviously many doctors, e.g., my niece's doctor, are treating with only HCQ. I too feel a simple review would be helpful, including a study with zinc picolinate as a substitution for zinc sulfate.

“With allergy season coming on.” I am allergic to house dust, cool weather mold, cigarette smoke, and ragweed, so am in allergy season at least 6 of the months of the year. I have been taking from 3 to 6 grams of Vitamin C a day for almost 50 years. It really helps. Some in the morning and evening and once or twice during the day since your body excretes excess in 5 or 6 hours. When my nose gets clogged I take 500 mg or 1 gram. If my nose has not opened by 1/2 hour, I take some more.

When I was a child, age 10 and on, one of my jobs was to iron 36 cloth handkerchiefs a week for my hayfever suffering father. When I finally discovered the value of Vitamin C for allergy, I got him interested. I also had him take 250 or 500 mg. of Pantothenic Acid to strengthen his adrenals. He never had another bad hayfever season again finally dying at age 90.

The question is how would the level of virus on the outside of a mask compare for a health worker hovering over very sick people versus someone walking past and infected person at six feet distance.

HCS providers and drug manufactures make their fortunes off of sick people. No sick people, no big bucks. That alone tells you why the industry and their government arm, called the FDA, Congress, and the private AMA, don't won't us taking relatively inexpensive vitamins and supplements to stay healthy. Keep in mind proper exercise is equally important for staying healthy.

Our entire HCI needs to be deregulated to the point were even Amazon and Walmart can compete for our HCS dollars.

The three main ones that people don't talk about are N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC), taurine and pantethine.

Begin by searching on pantethine. Hundreds of papers going back to the early 60s. It is worth the investigation, however the sick feeling in your stomach will never go away.

The "lipid theory" set medicine backwards. Just a theory. Still not proven. This is where pharmaceuticals decided to produce a product that plays with numbers. See, our formulation lowers LDL. Now you are cured.

That was never the case. They in fact had to come up with their own set of statistics thanks to the culpability of the NIH. We now have relative risk statistics.

Nowhere in all the studies did they determine the risk of interfering in the mevalonate pathway. Muscle destruction and pain? You're just a hypochondriac. Brain fog and confusion? It is just your imagination and we need to up your dose because you are becoming demented. Sterility and impotence? Hey, we can sell you some viagra. And on and on it goes. Great money making for companies like Pfizer. Approaching a trillion dollar drug. With that trillion dollars, you better not ask for their study data now that the patent has expired. They will destroy you. Just ask the last head of Cochran Reviews. Meanwhile heart disease and associated disorders march onward.

Taurine? Behind a paywall. Open science will cure that. Want to publish in a scholarly journal? Great for the ego, however few will see your work. Paywall hell.

NAC is interesting. Still not widely accepted as treatment for numerous conditions. It will play a roll in this epidemic.

Rant off and back to a nice single barrel drink.

Best.

"That's not what their research showed. Their researched showed that a detectable level of infectious virus was present on the outer layer of a surgical mask on day 7 (∼0·1% of the original inoculum). " It is difficult to write about when not presenting the original studies - thanks for getting it. If I was telling somebody about it I would say "So these guys did a study and a small portion of infectious virus was still found on their masks. Your mask could also have some infectious virus on it." BTW - it is shocking to hear about after all the other stuff I've read. You think you are protecting yourself (The N95 mask inventor said air-dry for 3 to 4 days), and then you hear new information. On the other hand is 1% of the virus remaining still a huge threat? I guess it depends on how much was there to begin with. Also, an N95 mask doesn't filter all of the virus anyway - just reducing the load. (I'm trying to make myself feel better for only drying my masks for 4 days!) Although I wash or sanitize my hands before and after donning and after doffing, so there's that!

“...what do you think will happen?”

I think it will be a long, prolonged infection rate with continued numbers of people dying. Or - it will start to spike again and they will want to shut things down again in order to keep the hospitals from getting overloaded. Avoiding hospital overload is about the only thing the shut downs are for as far as I can tell. Although hopefully some of these treatments will be found to work - or stamped okay by the Feds, and that will be a huge boost.

Acquaintances live in California - we are in Washington State. My wife got a text from them. “Hi there - so I hear the flu is gone now up in Washington. We're just getting it here now so we have to wear masks. Hopefully it will be gone as quickly has in Washington.”

I have NO idea where they are getting their information. And I thought California was only a week behind Washington in shutting things down? And no - the "flu" isn't "gone" yet.

Agreed on the reduced threat if 1% of the virus is remaining.

It’s a matter of reducing risk. It’s very challenging to eliminate risk. There’s going to be risk, in all sorts of things we do. Heck, the flu has risks of death associated with it.

But we all make an evaluation on risk and how much we can live with. A lot of the time, we do it without even thinking about it.

I’m hopeful one good outcome of awareness of COVID-19 is a reduction in flu. Hand washing should be a helpful practice. The same for people working while sick.

“Maybe that’s because I do so much stuff that gets gunk under my nails...”

Marv and Harry are barbers.

Marv: “Man - I hope the next guy that comes in wants a shampoo.”

Harry: “Yeah, the extra $3 adds up!”

Marv: “No - my finger nails are REALLY dirty.”

One last thing to add to my rant:

Statins Linked to Raised Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

This is rich: "In 2012, United States Food and Drug Administration released changes to statin safety label to include that statins have been found to increase glycosylated haemoglobin and fasting serum glucose levels."
