Social-distancing guidelines to stay 6 feet from others may be woefully inadequate, one scientist warns saying the coronavirus can travel 27 feet and linger for hours.
MIT associate professor Lydia Bourouiba, who has researched the dynamics of coughs and sneezes for years, warns in newly published research that the current guidelines are based on outdated models from the 1930s.
Rather than the assumed safety of 6 feet, Bourouiba warns that pathogen-bearing droplets of all sizes can travel 23 to 27 feet.

” I have no idea how the human race has survived this long in the first place.”
If we listen to all the DOOMERS about this, we’re all dead and it’s just a matter of time.
Makes sense given how large numbers of people were infected at large gatherings.
Probably the same for the other deadly pathogen that’s killing more people right now, influenza.
Fear itself! the modern Left
When I was flying back from Europe, the stewardess told of US Customs requirements. I and many other passengers soon smelled what must have been a delicious orange.
I can often tell when a cake is done by the smell.
Of 8400 Italian health care workers testing CV positive, 61 are no longer alive.
Not a fan of the truth, eh?
27 feet? Nearly a first down? Stretching credibility some here.
Look at the bright side.
First it could jump 2 yards, now 9.
At this rate it’ll be leaping right over the borders to become somebody else’s problem.
Over 99% of Americans will survive CV.
I think if that were true the numbers we’re seeing around the globe would be much, much higher.
Cuba had 31 new cases when I checked Radiohc yesterday.
Where are the Mythbusters when you need them?
According to the scientist it wouldn't matter if it was a small, medium or large gathering. There is another article in the same paper claiming that the virus lingers in the air long after the sneezer has left. Basically the only safe space is the one you're standing on at the edge of the cliff before you jump off because you're so depressed by reading the news.
This is one guy... they’re all over the map with a lot of issues pertaining to COVID-19, but the general consensus is the transmission is a few feet. Maybe in a driving wind, the droplets might be carried downwind for 27 feet.
Female.. sorry.
“I have no idea how the human race has survived this long in the first place.”
That’s the thing - as if one of these viorns gets inside of you and it’s all over. Well, not quite - if that were the case, not only humans, but literally every other animal wouldn’t have existed.
What happens is that (for healthy humans) their immune system POUNCES on invaders (virons) and can easily dispatch a fair number of them, including Coronavirus without you ever knowing. But get too many of those critters, then it’s infection time.
So, if you’re 27 feet away from a carrier, and outdoors, forget it, you won’t get sick, no matter how hard you try. If indoors, then you have to look at the conditions - if stagnant air and the guy is belching at a choir, as happened recently north of Seattle - then, yep, you may have a problem.
With a sneeze yes. You aren’t subject to perfect safety, if someone is that concerned they need to isolate themselves.
Corona ninjas infiltrate your home at night using tiny hot air balloons.
We are not going to stay in our homes while the government just walks right in and takes our freedom from us.
Where do we draw the line with this crap?
