If he is trying to balance the path between economy and lives I can see that.
He did state it is up the governors if they lock down or not lock down, which I respect. It should be local governments.
He is hearing things from both sides. Did He reverse directions because of the possible drug treatment.
His words move markets, he knows that. With his reverse and the bail out bill today the market is up 11%.

I also think the hospital are going to be overran no matter what now.

I disagree. A quarantine gives time (15 days) for those who got infected just before the quarantine to fall out and self-identify - they get sick.
Laying siege to a virus is the only thing that works when a virus is out of control. Laying siege by quarantine. Which should have happened for HIV, but didn’t, and now there are 30 million HIV active cases in the world today, China being the largest concentration, and no end in sight. I left public nursing over HIV, when the emphasis was put on PC-guilting medical pros instead of quarantining gays, and never looked back. I’m still very much at peace with the decision to go private care, far far away from PC hospital politics and wacko activists in management. Who, like yourself, believed in letting HIV run it’s course and everybody would get herd immunity. Well, they did, and it didn’t. Just like H1N1. Quarantine is effective and proven. Herd immunity is wishful thinking more often than not.
Unfortunately, we have several jurisdictions lying about statistics as well, by making it hard to get tested or in some cases “giving up”.
I expect to see a lot more of that in the next few weeks.

The definition of CFR does not say anything at all about whether your not you "get sick" or are otherwise symptomatic.
And then you go on to use that false understanding to justify your next statement: "This is why this 4% number for Corona is BS as many people get infected and don’t get sick. This is what makes it just the flu, bro, from a death perspective."

I am worry about that too.
I do not understand why they would lie about the statistics and why not just state they do not have the test for everybody.
CFR can’t accurately be determined until the epidemic is over IIRC.
It is way different to tell someone not to have unsafe sex versus telling someone to stay home for an indefinite period of time and they will lose their jobs and savings.
If people cannot even put on a condom, do you think they will quarantine themselves for months?
It is not going to work. People will disobey and the virus will still run its course.
Let’s use my state of Washington as an example - we started social distancing here before any state in the US. Seattle/Bellevue people are some of the most self-centered, passive-aggressive humans in the US.
We started testing here in a big way early, because the UW set up a program to track flu. We quarantined a lot of people, even while the planes were still landing from China.
We are seriously locked up now for most businesses, and everyone is ok with it for the most part. Yeah, it sucks.
Better than being on a ventilator in an ICU.
We watched patient zero in an isolation room being cared for by a robot, while America stared at their navels.
Social distancing is required for a while - I don’t understand why so many people can’t wrap their minds around infections. Break the cycle, buy time, find treatment. It’s no different than in combat and your buddy takes a round in the leg - stop the bleeding, treat the shock, get him to safety.
The scale is worldwide, not just here.
China is toast, folks. The CCP says open for business, but they are running skeleton crews for show. It takes hours to pass thru the temperature scanners for each factory area every day there. Workers are getting sick after they go back to work, but the CCP is NOT ALLOWED to report new cases.

As of Jan 14, the WHO swore the disease was under control and not communicable person to person
As of Jan 23 - when Wuhan was closed, Trump was already securing airlift planes to airlift our women and children out of Wuhan - and he did.
As of Feb 2 - the WHO, CDC, and every other ijit was calling Trump a racist for stopping travel from China. The CDC came out against travel restrictions and said they wouldn’t work. The WHO said quarantine wouldn’t work. (btw, guess what China is doing now? yes, quarantining everyone coming into the country and restricting travel)
So who was late to the party? I think maybe China, the CCPboughtWHO and the WHO buddies appeasing CDC - with data and honesty.
Trump trumped them all, proved them all liars, and still lying, and saved thousands and thousands of lives by his quick action.
