I just got back from trying to get some common items I need in my refrigerator: carrots, Lactaid milk, and Stok unsweetened coffee. Now I feel very depressed and apprehensive for what's gonna be coming up in the next few weeks.
Went to BJs, as they have great prices on all of the above. I walked into a near-empty store--and immediately the theme music from "The Twilight Zone" started playing. Vegetables--pretty wiped out, and NO carrots. Milk--NO milk of any kind, except goat milk. Guys, you can have my portion of the goat milk! I bought some Silk Almond Milk just to have something. I felt like I'd been slapped, like I had stepped into a nightmare. Here I was in America, and I was being forced to live like someone in a turd world country, with extensive food shortages.
I continued on to Wegmans, and was treated to pretty much the same experience. There was a sign over the carrots -- "Limit: 2 bags of carrots"--but they needn't have bothered, as there WERE no carrots to buy. I needed some for a recipe, so I bought baby food carrots. And a goo-goo to you, too! When I reached the dairy section, I was reminded of Texas--lots of WIDE OPEN SPACES. No milk in sight, and only a few cartons of eggs. I grabbed some eggs, as I needed to buy them before Passover.
As if I didn't hate China, murderous land of selling political prisoners' body parts and the most heinous methods of torturing and killing numerous animal species I ever heard of before, now they are firmly in my sights. I realize that not being able to buy carrots, milk, or refrigerated coffee does not begin to approach the horrible ramifications of the coronavirus plague on many families, putting wage-earners out of work itself, bringing death to loved ones, preventing freedom of movement, and all the other negative changes to our lives, but it's what happened to me now, so far. The food shortage was sufficient to bring it home to me, realtime.
How are the rest of you suffering and how are you coping? I feel for all Americans' suffering induced by the unspeakable lowlife Chinese and their selfishness.
Ha! Thanks
I am good for now. I am a novice prepper which means I have plenty of toilet paper. This experience, though, has made me decide to move up to varsity prepping in the future.

Two stores had zero bleach - the third had 40+ bottles.
You just have to be patient, and not go nuts when you find what you are looking for (I didn't buy 10 bottles of bleach - just the one I needed).
Nicely done, Uncle. I need to take a page from your book. My novice prepping needs to be kicked up a notch or two.

Yesterday at Tom Thumb in the Dallas area, deli meat shelves were sparsely stocked, the toilet paper aisle was empty, one dozen eggs was left (one per family), and milk was only available in gallons. Store workers were cleaning the empty shelves.
Not a prepper but I have a well stocked pantry and two fridges (one for diet sodas and drinks) thanks to previous buying from Sams Club and Trader Joes. Plenty beans and vegetables!
D-ar-lin’,... Everyone staying home has limitations and are also on their own, they also ‘prepared’ for the possibility of holding up on the homefront. Those who stayed informed know their families routines and habits prepared.
I purchased she stable milk in cartons from the Dollar Tree.
Took me more than a couple times to ‘read the handwriting on the wall’ close enough to get what I needed ahead of the rush and complaining....there's a pace that happens in events/happenings and you can learn when the tempo is about to change.
I generally don't have meals out so this was fun and a treat after Dr. visit. Drove around a bit to see what it was like and there's a distinct difference everywhere. Way less cars on roads, empty parking lots, stores closed. Sort of like just before a blizzard hits but different.
Ammo is mostly made here. Massive run in the last 10 days.
haven’t been to Wally’s in a month cause i usually stock up when i do, i get milk here at the Dandy-mart
but one of my scripts needs refill so i’ll know here soon enough
My husband and I are well stocked for now, but we did, in our travels, find a few random packages of tp at a local CVS.
You are so right about seafood! Goes to show it’s not a favorite among many people...but I happen to love it, and my hubby likes it, depending what it is. Thinking of stocking up a bit in that area. That’s one change we’re going through that is actually healthy, as long as you don’t have more servings than recommended for the week.
But Cuomo should have gone along with de Blasio in putting it on lockdown by now. The subway should have been closed to all by emergency personnel, etc. The volume of sick there is going to be massive.
Most conservative President in modern history. Best ever.
I’m an ideological conservative. For awhile during freaking primaries, I percieved a more conservative candidate was available. Got roasted here during that time ... for adhering to as much conservatism as I could how I saw it.
Happily, Trump, while not an ideologue like me, is functionally more conservative than I ever dreamed possible. I’m overjoyed.
Plus, he kicks them in the teeth. And he is trying to dismantle the deep state.
I’ve been solidly on the Trump Train since Summer, 2016. Just a couple weeks later than some here demanded.
bet theyll leverage everyone.>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Already leveraging Spain and Italy.
I do not think Trump will go along in the long run and may have to in the short run to keep medicine supply coming.
There will be a reckoning.
“I grew up on powdered milk. Not a single effing way Ill go that route again.”
You too? We always called it blue milk. Most disgusting smell and taste ever. Not going there again.
On the other hand, Amazon has whole powered milk in stock. Have no idea of taste but I’m sure it won’t be blue when mixed. lol
