I didn’t approve. It was expensive, and I’m amazed he didn’t lose his eyes. But, porcupines will sit near trails, and we walked a lot of trails. He would retrieve ducks with a soft mouth, but his exploits with porcupines escalated from 2 quills on the end of his nose on the first encounter, to all out combat.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw something about 100 yds away stand up-dark almost black. Then turn and walk away. Before this happened I had the weird feeling I was being watched and I have walked those trails for 10 years. It was not human..possibly a black bear Is that trail on Martha's Vineyard?
