As you may or may not know, I only really started taking care of the diabetes in 2017, though I was diagnosed in 2010. Even then, my control has been kinda bad. I sometimes see a blood sugar near 300, but I am getting better.
Some of my neglect has caught up with me.
Friday morning, I noticed I was seeing double when driving. I went to the doctor for a previous appointment, unrelated to this. I didnt bother to mention this issue because it came and went, and I figured it was just eye strain or something.
Well, it got worse Saturday. My optometrist is open on Saturday, at 11AM, but I ended up calling the on-call doctor (they say to call if it is an ocular emergency. I figured this was close enough to an emergency.
So I got in touch with him, and he told me to come in right at 11AM, and that he would bump his previous persons appointment, because this is serious. I came in, he looked me over (retinas, eye movement, prescription change). When he got done he told me what has likely happened is that one or two of the 6 major nerves, or a blood vessel feeding one of the eye muscles had either a stenosis (narrowing) or aneurysm (swelling). He would be concerned if is is an aneurysm, so wed want me to get to my normal doctor)first thing on Monday in an emergency basis, and at his recommendation, to order a scan (CT or MRI) using angiogram / radioactive fluids so they can see whats going on it there. So I will need to do these things to maybe get my eyes back to normal function.
There is a bit of good news the optomologist said the prognosis for a recovery in weeks or months is pretty good, because my pupil function was perfectly okay. He told me the body will come up with new blood vessels to feed the nerve and the muscle that is in a state of palsy, and that if there is nerve damage, even that can be repaired. If it does not work out, that there are surgeries possible to repair things. Not sure that is a great option, I dont see how they could correct that.
The level of double vision is extreme when I am driving, but near-in looking at a computer screen seems to be okay. If that deteriorates, I should be able to keep going by wearing an eye patch and using one eye.
Needless to say, I am terrified. The one thing I do not want to lose is my sight.
Prayers up, Laz.
P.S. Please try to control your diabetes—you need your kidneys—also affects your blood pressure.
Prayers have gone out Laz - Hang in there!
Laz, you certainly have my prayers, you are a bright spot around here and we want you with us for a good long while.
I would like to suggest that you look into the low carb way of eating, it helps to control insulin and has a lot of other health benefits. Like I said, we want you around here for a good long time.
Raising your name up in prayer. Jesus knows what is going on so I am asking Him to have mercy on your eye situation. Try to lie down and soak in His glorious light allowing it to shine in the dark areas needing healing. Be confident in The Holy Spirit coming to comfort you and your worries. And, of course, tell Satan he’s losing this battle with your eyes and to exit your body and home, in The Name of Jesus Christ!!!!
Peace be with you.
Praying for you!
I will be thinking of you, and praying for you and your loved ones.
Praying for you. Take care of your health, sir.
It can make you go blind.....change already
Listen to your doctor, Laz. Follow the instructions all the time. Don’t get over-excited. Don’t drive into a telephone pole.
I’ll be praying for you and pulling for you!
Laz,
My husband has had similar issues and also suffers from diabetes. After a few procedures his vision is better than mine! Trust your doctors and know that you are in our prayers.
Hang in there, Laz. This site wouldn’t be the same without you. (no pun intended.)
Good luck, buddy! Sounds like you are in full control/fix mode.
But the ignoring the blood sugar issue must stop. Manage your carbs and greatly reduce the sweets. I’ve been doing it for 15 years. Meds will help greatly. Get it under control and you can still have the occasional doughnut, cookie or ice cream.
Please get used to that b/c the alternatives are all hugh & series.
Good luck. Makes me realize I need to get serious about my diabetes.
Laz, you are an institution on FR. I rarely post, but I always read yours. You are both insightful and inciteful.
I offer prayers for you.
Prayers for you buddy. Life gets more serious the older you get. All the best.
You’ve got my prayers, Laz....and those of multitudes here.
God is good and He loves you and we do too!
You have my prayers Laz. You are a good man and you need to take this as a warning to take better care of yourself. You are our beloved weird one and we dont want anything bad to happen to you.
So, like it or not you are on my prayer list. Keep us posted.
My dear friend Laz, this will not be the first prayer I’ve said for you. I’m always thinking of you and now I’ve got
even more to think about. Please PLEASE take care of yourself and especially your eyes! I am praying so much for you to overcome this matter and get back to being your regular self.
Always your friend,
Grumpy
But I guarantee that some guy somewhere is tired of her crap.
