“China has posited that the high rate of mortality in Wuhan was prior exposure to SARS.”
I think there was something about the vaccine for SARS also being a contributing factor - but thought that was tin-foil hat stuff. Maybe not?
You are correct, I did read that there was trouble with the SARS vaccination. It made people worse when they were infected-immune system in overdrive.
It was discovered in time so that the USA knew to shut down the vaccination they were getting ready to roll out.
I can’t recall a lot of the details, and I did not bookmark the articles.
SXSW - March 13 to March 22
No way will uber lib Austin cancel it. There could be zombies everywhere and they’d still not cancel it. Besides, it is only fair and right that everyone equally share coronavirus.
The nation also won’t cancel all the parades and other St. Patrick’s events. Can you imagine NYC and Boston not having parades and bars parties.
Get your preps done by Thursday, March 12 because after that following weekend, it’ll likely explode. We’ll start seeing more any day as it’s percolating after Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday last week. Tik toc, tic toc.
Ugh, too many Austin commuters here. We’ll need to get all errands run to Walmart and Home Depot finished up. Mr. b has a doctor’s appoint about then.
“Public health authorities do not require providers report flu cases so we do not know exact flu numbers.”
https://www.dshs.state.tx.us/flu/surveillance.aspx
Yet, the US government took it’s sweet time stopping flights. We still haven’t stopped enough. It’s taking individual companies to decide on their own. American Airlines had to have basically a walk out over Italy flights before they stopped.

WHO says not to use UV light. WHO says no to every thing but accepting packages from China.
UV lamps should not be used to sterilize hands or other areas of skin as UV radiation can cause skin irritation.
I read that and think, Ok, but it kills it, right? Ill have irritated skin but it kills it.
Life is a seemingly endless list of choices, isnt it?
“Precautions should include cancelling all auxiliary events that put players in contact with crowds such as meet and greets and press events. Athletic programs should also take every possible measure to sanitize buses and airplanes used to transport players.
In regard to the NCAA’s March Madness Tournament and other athletic events, there should be a serious discussion about holding competitions without an audience present.”

SXSW
“Thousands sign petition calling on SXSW to cancel 2020 event as coronavirus spreads... Coronavirus won’t affect festival prepara”
Video says it’s still on and organizers say it’s business as usual. CDC doesn’t think airport needs more screening. Some from China have cancelled.
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver Addresses Trumps False Coronavirus Claims: This Is A Bad Time To Have A President Who Cannot Speak Clearly
It’s easy enough to clean the handles yourself. I’ve been more concerned for decades over the kiddie poopy seat where people put their fresh produce. The whole basket is full of germs and dirt and bird poop. Our grocery leaves them outside under the porch cover 24/7 so no sunshine but lots of dirt and poop. There’s always birds in the store. Hey, it builds customers’ immunity, right? FYI, lifetime customer here.
Q: Can an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection lamp kill the new coronavirus?
A: UV lamps should not be used to sterilize hands or other areas of skin as UV radiation can cause skin irritation.
What a bunch of idiots. That wasn’t the question! Bring something in from the outside? (Mail, groceries, etc.) Dose it with the UVC light for a couple of minutes. THEN bring it inside.
Toss your keys and cell phone in as well. The UV light will degrade plastics to a degree. Hmm - yellowed cell phone cover or cold grey skin 6 feet under?
Do N95 respirators provide 95% protection level against airborne viruses, and how adequate are surgical masks?
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16490606/
The results indicate that the penetration of virions through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-certified N95 respirators can exceed an expected level of 5%. As anticipated, the tested surgical masks showed a much higher particle penetration because they are known to be less efficient than the N95 respirators. The 2 surgical masks, which originated from the same manufacturer, showed tremendously different penetration levels of the MS2 virions: 20.5% and 84.5%, respectively, at an inhalation flow rate of 85 L/min.

The UVC light is REALLY bad on your eyes and skin. But that isn’t the purpose of it. Where UV goggles and clothing as you disinfect objects. Or more typical, turn the light on and close the door as it disinfects the room and areas exposed to the light.
I’m going to take a cardboard box, lined with tin foil and with the metal wire shelf for the oven propped up. Toss your small objects on the shelf, zap it for a couple of minutes.
There is some company doing the same thing at hospitals - they run a fancy thing that rotates the phone around for one minute.
You need to use metal as the “mirror”. A glass mirror will absorb the UVC waves and won’t reflect them.
Time, temp, an ph. I do not know the specifics on COVID, but longer time at lower temp will kill viruses and bacteria just fine. That is why sous vide cooking works
