Washington (AFP) – A senior US health official said Sunday that more than 40 Americans on a quarantined cruise ship in Japan have been infected with the deadly coronavirus.
“Forty of them have gotten infected,” Anthony Fauci, a senior official at the National Insitutes for Health said on CBS’ Face the Nation show.

Don’t think we don’t. And don’t think we didn’t on our Princess cruise Feb. 1-8. From Amazon we bought smallish Clorox brand hand sanitizer spray bottles. Didn’t get sick. Didn’t see/hear sick people.
Also what we thought was weird is that at the buffet all the dishes have tongs and spoons for serving, and EVERYONE uses them thinking that makes it safe. Fool’s paradise. (Did I mention that EVERYONE uses them?)
But the good news is that your cruise has been extended for an extra 3 weeks for free.
Refund?
Why? All of our rooms come with blue gloves and masks.

According to the article, those 40 Americans were sent to hospitals in Japan.
Most of the rest of the Americans are already here, in quarantine.

Did that video say that 355 people on board that ship were infected with the corona virus?
If, as presently expected, the population of asymptomatic carriers increases that aspect may well come to bear on our nation's commercial air fleets. Our 9-11 experience could appear insignificant in comparison.
More Than 40 Americans Infected With Coronavirus On Quarantined Cruise Ship
More than 40 americans are among several hundred people who have tested positive for the coronavirus while quarantined on a cruise ship in Japan, health officials said Sunday.
A total of 355 people aboard the Diamond Princess are infected with the virus, according to Japanese health minister Katsunobu Kato.
Forty-four of those infected passengers are Americans, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told The Washington Post.
The passengers have been under a mandatory quarantine for more than a week while docked in the Japanese port city of Yokohama, near Tokyo.
Everyone infected on the ship will be taken to hospitals in Japan while all others will be evacuated to the U.S., where they will undergo a second quarantine, Fauci said on “Face The Nation.”
“They are not going to go anywhere,” Fauci said. “The degree of transmissibility on that cruise ship is essentially akin to being in a hot spot.”
Anyone who begins to show symptoms while being evacuated to the U.S. will be separated on the return flight, he added.
The news comes one day after authorities confirmed that an 83-year-old American woman who had been cleared to leave a cruise ship in Cambodia and then flew to Malaysia has since tested positive for the virus.
Fauci warned that the outbreak is “on the verge” of becoming a global pandemic “unless containment is more successful than it is right now.”
Globally, there have been 51,857 laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus since the outbreak began in China late last year, according to the World Health Organization.
The vast majority of the cases have been in China, though 15 people in the U.S. who were recently in China have also tested positive for the illness.
All depends on how their ventilation system was designed. Looks central based due to logistics. And on how clean their food preparers were. Something there failed horribly.

Yes. 10 % currently hit the lottery on the Free Corona Cruise. And I think they had tested 30 to 40 % up to now. So that % of lottery winners could only go higher.

Was on NCL to Belize, Honduras and Mexico back in May. EVERYWHERE they had staff with spray bottles of hand sanitizer solution constantly spraying people's hands and singing songs to remind everyone to keep their hands clean. Most especially as one entered the buffets, restaurants and bars. Heck, they sprayed our hands as we re-entered the ship after being in port!
Taking another NCL cruise in late May to go to Alaska. My second trip there, GF's first trip. I've no second thoughts or concerns about going either. Practice basic cleanliness and hygiene and you'll be ok.
I was on that ship in 2012 during my first cruise to Alaska. It's a beautiful ship and unfortunately, after this they're likely gonna sink it right in the deepest part of the Pacific because no one's going to want to go on it.....
Wait till virus hits one of our US Navy ships. 6000 sailors on an aircraft carrier and no one to drive the thing because they are in their bunks puking up their toes. If this hits one of our subs there isnt enough beds for them to sleep since they hot bunk. 3 sailors use the same bed to save space in a rotating shift.

I have a nephew and his wife who just picked up a cruise ship in Singapore. I can’t decide if they have a death wish or exceptionally strong immune systems. I wish them luck and hope they live to tell about the tale. Fifty-five days worth of world cruising.
