4. At the direction of #Iran’s Supreme Leader,Soleimani was plotting a coup in #Iraq. He was corrupting/threatening politicians, exploiting Iraq’s resources & bringing a large military force loyal to him,in an effort to make Iraq a platform to attack the U.S. & our allies 2/2— Marco Rubio (@marcorubio) January 3, 2020

If a president had to consult with Congress every time they wanted to kill a terrorist, we’d be speaking Arabic now.

Trump’s Monthly Approval Climbs in December

Despite his impeachment by House Democrats last month, the president earned a monthly job approval of 49% in December, up two points from November and just one point shy of his high for 2019 of 50% in April. In January of last year, Trump’s monthly job approval had fallen to 44%, its lowest level in a year. But it jumped five points to 49% in February following his well-received State of the Union speech, recapturing the high ground he held for most of 2018. Fifty percent (50%) still disapproved of the president’s job performance last month, but that was down two points from November.

EXCELLENT THREAD.

From the comments

“Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is convinced that the End of Days has come. They believe the Shia messiah known as the “Twelfth Imam” or the “Mahdi” will appear soon to establish a global Islamic kingdom known as the caliphate”. Just around the corner

New York Times journalist Farnaz Fassihi offered what some of her critics described as a “eulogy” to killed Iranian terrorist leader Qasem Suleimani after she posted a video of him reciting poetry.

Given that Suleimani was responsible for the deaths of innumerable American citizens as well as orchestrating “a campaign of chaos against the United States around the world,” some questioned the tone of Fassihi’s response

Couldn’t take any more of Chucky either, was making me nauseous!

Turned on Mark Steyn, who is in for Rush.

Like how he handles everything with a bit of humor.

Did Obummer consult with Congress before he sent the SEALS to take out Osama?

I think not.

But you didn’t here the pubbies having a fit about it either.

We had proof he was going to Iraq to wage war against us, he was a really bad dude, that is enough for me.

If Schiff is to be believed, he was all in for an unauthorized military engagement in Libya by President Obama that didn’t concern Americans, didn’t go after terrorists, and wasn’t liked by the American people. Yet, he is completely against an unauthorized military engagement in Iraq by President Trump that did concern Americans, did go after a major terrorist leader, and has the support of Americans who are not suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome. For Schiff to be believed, he’d have to say, “I endorsed the war in Libya because it was ordered by a Democrat but I oppose the strike in Iraq because it was ordered by a Republican.”

Maybe these apologist so called journalists should think be fore they post something.

What the heck did she "think" she was doing?

Or did she just "feel" bad that the world had lost this despicable terrorist?

They’ve got small weights distributed evenly to make the blanket heavy on you. I saw one advertised on tv and my son bought one and he says it’s lovely. He says it puts you into a deeper sleep - says it’s like getting a hug while you sleep. They say it’s great to settle anxiety, some people with PTSD swear by them.....I just wanted to stay warmer all night lol.

I read the reviews on Amazon - mostly positive. If y’all don’t hear from me again, it killed me in the night.

NIKK..Tweety's great post.

Kim Ghattas...(DC, Beirut. @CarnegieEndow non-resident scholar. Author: BLACK WAVE. Out Jan, 28 2020. )

1 THREAD: Middle East waking up to incredible news of Qassem Suleimani's killing in US strike in Iraq, at Baghdad airport. He had reportedly just flown back from Beirut. He was like a Middle East viceroy, trotting around region, giving orders, masterminding small and large ops.

2 A combination of elation, relief and fear here in the region among people who suffered tremendously from Suleimani's policies, from Lebanon to Syria and Iraq. Elation and relief because he was seen as the evil mastermind of policies of death and destruction...

3 ...propping up bloodthirsty oppressive militias, overseeing a devastating war in Syria, feeding/playing on sectarian hatred, helping crack down on protestors in Iran (2009/2017/2019), Iraq now, and likely more recently helping Hezb to navigate protests in Lebanon.

4 Note that he had just flown back from Beirut.... and it's definitely not his first visit.... There were reports of him being in Lebanon in 2006 to help Hezbollah strategise in the war against Israel.

5 and so there's celebration and relief from Iran, to Iraq to Lebanon and Syria, among those, Sunnis and Shias who suffered from his evil mind. I write about him in my forthcoming book Black Wave and the deadly dynamics of revenge that he pursued after Iran-Iraq war

6 there is fear because he was so central to almost every regional event in the last two decades that even people who hate him can't believe he could die, a bit like people couldn't believe Saddam was really gone. He seemed invincible, omnipotent. What happens in his absence?

7 some of his aura or reputation was probably overblown, but he really was indispensable to Iran, he was not on a mission, he WAS the mission, the architect of Iran's expansionist regional policy, the indispensable upholder of the Islamic Revolution, keeping it alive for Khamenei

8 So what comes next: war? chaos? limited retaliation? nothing? no one really knows, not in the region, and not in DC, because this is unprecedented.

9 There is anger too of course, among his supporters, allies, proxy militias, who were devoted to him and lionized him and will be lost without him. There is no replacement that I know of or can see. They will be mulling their next step for a bit. First, huge displays of mourning.

10 Lots more to say abt region, US policy, Saudi Arabia reax, Iran domestic reax, local dynamics... more later, but for now then read Dexter Filkins' piece from 2013 on Suleimaini, the best profile out there:

ATX Libertarian

Great set of thoughts here. I think this puts Iran in a bind. Economy tanking. Resulting military leadership struggle. Resulting political struggle. Recent civil unrest shows underlying discontent. Iran regime could quickly disappear if they misstep. War with US unlikely IMO.

I don’t think I would like that at all.

Don’t let it CRUSH you, Judy.

Fight back, throw it out the door.
