Jenny Castillo makes over six figures, owns multiple homes in DC and vacationed in three countries already this year. But at the end of each month, shes still counting pennies.
Adulting is very expensive, Castillo, 32, tells The Post. Yeah, on paper I make good money, but when you factor in debt, cost of living and lifestyle, its not.
Even though Castillo makes more than 75% of the US population, according to 2014 US Census Bureau data, she insists theres not much left after shelling out for rent, bills, savings and her pleasure fund.
I have a separate account just for fun things, Castillo says, listing travel, eating out and stays at luxury hotels as her musts. Self-care is something I prioritize in my life, and I dont feel guilty about it.
Castillo is a HENRY short for High Earners Not Rich Yet. Though the term was first coined in a 2003 Fortune magazine article, it has since come to describe a burgeoning class of mostly millennials who make between $100,000 and roughly $250,000 a year, experts say. This cohort is also all about maintaining a particular lifestyle whether thats traveling to the latest jet-set destination, eating at a trendy restaurant or splurging on a spa treatment and green juice. But their taste for luxury and the pressure to keep up with their well-heeled buds on social media has some HENRYs feeling more strapped than stacked.
I feel like Im living paycheck to paycheck, and have been for forever, says a 30-year-old graphic designer, who wished to stay anonymous to protect her job.

My beginning pay in the Army in 1969 was about $79/month, but it included room and board.
> Honestly, if ever TSHTF, she wont last more than a couple days.
On the bright side, with all that pampering, I bet she’ll be tender like veal.
Owning multiple homes and “rent” does not compute.
Written by fellow millennial I presume.
“Liberals, the other white meat.”
I understand it’s all relative based upon where you live. But, there people are not trees; they CAN move.
However, I don’t want them in MY Cow Town, LOL!
Do infants have as much fun in infancy as adults have in adultery?
“Castillo is a HENRY short for High Earners Not Rich Yet.”
Sounds more like she hasn’t yet grown up. The BIG PROBLEM people like her have is dealing with life when the gravy train runs out (i.e., the job goes away).
And she, in particular, will now have a tougher time getting her next job, now that her irresponsibility is in the public domain, including her picture.
Adulting is very expensive,
Only if you are outliving your pay check.
So true, ha!
“where she and her husband can maintain their preferred lifestyle of organic, grass-fed groceries”
I don’t know of too many stores that feed their groceries, organic or not. If she’s insisting on that, I think she has more problems than they’re letting on to.
Mine also, same year,69. Saved a lot of money as I had no expenses except dry cleaning uniform.
I was BLESSED to be raised by my Dad and Grandpa. Grandpa survived The Great Depression by taking any and EVERY job that came his way. He had a wife, a toddler (my Dad) and his FIL to support.
He shoveled snow. He delivered papers. He collected papers and bottles and metal junk to cash in. I remember he cleaned streets, delivered beer or whatever else needed delivering, painted houses, etc. The man was a dynamo and was until he died in his sleep at 89.
My Dad and he had a rocky relationship, but my Dad certainly carried on his work ethic. And Dad taught me to invest. Early! When they other girls were spending their allowances on Tiger Beat Magazine, the latest 45 record, or lip gloss, I was buying Cocoa, Coffee and Pork Belly futures - back in the Dark Ages when you used a printed newspaper, a stubby pencil and the telephone, LOL!
Again, so, SO blessed to have had those men in my life.
And I never asked for a dime and I never ended up back home after I left at 17. I loved my family but with that genetic stew, I was Born Ready! ;)
(The women in our family were beautiful and equally as talented; not meaning to give them short shrift!)
That was SUCH a good book! I’ve got to read that one again. A great Morality Tale, for sure. :)
No, Castillo is a DUMBASS - shirt for Democrap Uninformed Moron Bitching About Stupid Sh!t! Owns multiple houses in DC my ass! Lay you money she has $100 grand in collage debt and 6 maxed out credit cards!
5 years?
That is worrisome
“Anyone who vacationed in 3 countries in a year might be having budget issues.”
In most cases, yes. But, on the other hand, she lives in NYC, and with a ride on the subway to JFK, she can visit China for $649 (including airfare, hotels, ground transportation, and some meals). But it doesn’t appear that she is looking to minimize her cost of travel, so I guess this option is out for her:

ROFLMAO! :)
I *know* that reference...
Yup. I'd move outside the Perimeter, but it turns out all those rents got jacked too. To see any rent improvement, you need to go 30 miles out (like to Winder, GA).
They are building all these new apartments, too, to the tune of 3,000 a month. I have NO idea who is affording those. I sure can't.
