Fatty acids found in baked goods and takeaways may put people at greater risk of dementia.
Trans fats, which are used to make cakes, biscuits, margarines and fried food, are not banned in the UK, although they are not commonly used.
Japanese researchers have now linked these fats to dementia, in a study of more than 1,600 people over 60.
Estimating people's consumption of trans fats using blood tests, they found those with the highest levels in their body were 52 per cent more likely to get dementia.
Evidence suggests trans fats may cause harmful inflammation and the build-up of a protein called amyloid, which are both linked to dementia.

“controversial” “could”. The author is a pinhead for not getting her own writing.
I stand up for fat trans. I wont be silenced!
Trans fats are actually proteins that think they are fat. And don’t you dare call them proteins!
Another problem is Rapeseed oil aka Canola. It’s a derivative from the paint industry. It has a very poor shelf life, and smells and tastes just like varnish when it starts to go. Used in many snacks and foods now.
SOBs are so cheap they don’t even use peanut oil in peanut butter, I mean I suppose they have to use something extra but I guess even corn oil is too expensive. Yeesh.
Well I can’t think of a better way to go nuts......begone you ignorant food police and uppity scientists!! I’ve always said my ideal death would be sitting at the table with a rare steak on the plate, a glass of wine and and cigarette in one hand.......(damn, I quit smoking so I guess 2 outta 3 ain’t bad) but I’d be willing to have a glass of bourbon to replace the cig but I could start smoking again.......I’ll let you know when I feel my time has come.......;)
Lard is good, but so is butter.
The whole LDL thing has been pretty much debunked—as has the issue of saturated fat.
With all the sugar and carbs you will consume in those fried foods, cake, biscuits and baked goods in general, the hydrogenated oil/fat is just more bad crap-I’ll stick with the organic, fresh and all natural low carb food I was brought up eating-margarine could be soft plastic or a plant based version of WD40 if it had a couple more ingredients...
Reading this kind of craps puts you closer to dementia.
Eat whatever the hell you want. I bitterly resent being told what and what not to eat.
One size does not fit all-like most ranch-raised folks, I love my protein-beef, pork and chicken-nothing better than a rare steak, grilled outdoors and some steamed veggies right out of the garden with butter and favorite seasonings-maybe some fresh goat cheese too-a glass of Merlot, and maybe a cigarette and I’m a happy camper-plenty of energy for work and workout and no extra pounds to haul around...
If a woman is tempted to gobble the carbs and sugar, though-I would think the image of that big ol’ heifer Hillary Clinton would be a great deterrent...
I do like new red potatoes sometimes in Winter-in beef burgundy stew, or caldo de res-but brown rice with wild rice or fresh corn on the cob are tastier to me-and better nutritionally-but that stuff is just too heavy for Summer eating-I never developed a taste for sweet stuff other than fresh fruit-it wasn’t on the menu at home-my family are healthy eating freaks so I grew up eating that way and it works for me. I have never taken any drugs, either-still don’t...
I’ve never been a hard liquor drinker-I discovered in college that one drink puts me down for the count, and that is no fun-beer and wine only...
Hippy health tip No. 15:
If people ate only seaweed, arugula and lichen, they would never experience dementia because they’d be dead at the age of 29.
I use my lard for stir fry. Fresh veggies and meat, only carbs are some Chinese noodles for crunch. Well, and the adult beverage, too.
> ...my ideal death would be sitting at the table with a rare steak on the plate...
Make that HALF a rare steak and I’m with you. :p
Make that HALF a rare steak and Im with you. :p
Well I used to say wipe it’s arse, knock it’s horns off and run it through....and I’ve eaten them that way. Can’t do that anymore. Hub is a transplant patient and has no immune system so we had to start cooking them more......medium rare is a beautiful thing (but don’t tell his doctors). Like he said, if he has to eat a well done steak, he’ll just have to die because he loves his steak. He had to give up raw oysters.....how much is a man supposed to take? LOL
