My brother had his neck broken in Dallas in a car wreck with a woman from Saudi Arabia that had diplomatic immunity.
Wasn’t a horrible break, but he did have to change jobs and quit lifting heavy stuff.
Send her back to the UK to face the music.
That and a moose with diplomatic immunity once bit my sister.
Name one time Britain waved diplomatic immunity for one of their diplomats.
This sounds wrong to me.
Although, we let UN diplomats get away with crimes here in the US under the shield of diplomatic immunity.
There should be no such thing as Diplomatic Immunity.
Tough one IMO.
Definitely pay damages.
You know, they drive on the wrong side of the road over there...
I don’t know. What is the typical way it is handled?
If she’s at fault it seems like there should be some retribution.
I wouldn’t object to the US reaching a cash settlement with the family though.
Didn’t know a diplomats entire family had immunity.
They can sue her civilly. That’s all. There rules are the rules.
The purpose of diplomatic immunity is to allow foreign governments to conduct State business abroad without fear of arbitrary use of the host’s criminal justice powers. Of course it has been abused.
I am surprised we don’t already have a custom or policy allowing this type of incident to be handled under local law. It should be...especially in the UK. I just don’t see the risk of cruel or unusual punishment or any foreign policy issue.
In this case, to allow a total pass because of a misapplied convention is not just.
Send that female canine back to John Bull!@
But if she was drunk that's a different story.
Of course the kid's family deserves money but criminal prosecution may not be the best answer...assuming she wasn't drunk.
Screw the Limeys, Tell ‘em they can put Christopher Steele in the can in her place, because they’re such a “good” ally.
They drive the wrong way, how can she be responsible for that? It is very complicated and interferes with updating her Faceborq status.
Send her back
Since no one is willing to name her:
Was she a protected class?
Was her spouse male or female?
How long had she worked for the CIA?
