There should be no such thing as Diplomatic Immunity.
I agree. I lived most of my life in NYC, and the members of the foreign delegations at the UN got off scot free on everything, from parking tickets to homicide, because of diplomatic immunity.
I agree. US military personnel stationed overseas are subject to the laws of the host country. No “diplomatic immunity” for our uniformed personnel.
Why should civilians have such protections?
That said, diplomatic immunity is a longstanding rule. No country has ever waived it as far as I have been able to discover after a quick search on the subject.
Well there is such a thing as Diplomatic Immunity, and we shouldn’t go waiving it for an honest mistake. Even one that takes a life.
One of the reasons it exists is different standards of justice between countries. Do you really want American diplomats subject to sharia law in Muslim countries? Or the death penalty because someone accuses them of insulting mohammad in Pakistan?

It’s a necessary evil for running spooks internationally.
Being a former diplomat, that would be a big mistake. There needs to be reform as to immunities, but getting rid of it would destroy the diplomatic corps as less scrupulous countries would leverage no immunity into black mail.
