Republican State Senator David Simmons is leading an effort in the Florida legislature to drastically change gun ownership in his state.
Simmons, who is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced on Wednesday that he wants to bar anyone under age 25 from legally purchasing or owning a firearm, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

So, lets put on hold talking about how much of an idiot this man is, because there is a group of people that are even bigger idiots. Those that elected him.
1. the minimum age to go into law enforcement will have to be raised, as well. And with departments having a hard enough time getting recruits, this will make it even harder.
2. Florida is home to numerous military units that are made up of young men that will be affected by such an incredibly ridiculous law. They'll be responsible enough to fight your war, but not own a pistol unit they reach their 25th birthday.
3. I can't speak for Florida, but in Georgia, to get a hunting license you have to take a Hunter's Safety course unless you were born in the early 60s. If the laws are the same or similar in Florida, then this law doesn't do anything.
4. Hard to believe this man is in a position to come up with laws that will effect the citizens of Florida and he's just proven that he's an absolute moron.

I guess well have to close all the military bases in Florida and take the guns from rookie cops. Sorry soldier, youre old enough to die for your country, but too young to handle a weapon.

And if you get denied the right, then you’ll just do what the Garland-Midland shooter did. He went into his dad’s shop and machined one from scratch.

This doesnt sound like it would affect military or law enforcement since they dont own or purchase the guns they carry.
Unless Im missing something?

Republican State Senator Looks To Bar People Under 25 From Buying A Gun
If people under 25 can't buy guns and/or use them, then, we should not be accepting anyone into the military that is under 25, because, they will get weapons for training and will learn how to use them.
But, I can do one better on the congressman...
If people under 25 are too young to learn to be responsible, then, let's up the minimum voting age to 25. After all, voting is a much bigger responsibility, with much bigger consequences for cities and states and the country. Irresponsible and ignorant and naive people, could be voting the country into a disastrous and destructive future. That's a lot more dangerous than weapons of any kind.
BTW, how much gun crime is committed by those under 25 vs those over 25? Or was the congressman simply picking an arbitrary age?

Some departments make their personnel buy their own weapons, for one.
Also, there would have to be an exemption for police departments. Why does a 21yr old cop or deputy get more rights than a 24yr old member of the military that is in a Ranger Battalion, PJ, Combat Controller, TACP?

Even young adults should not be disarmed and defenseless without a reason. Bust the young drug addicts. When they are caught with weapons, bust them again. Stop hiding records of juvenile drug addicts.
