Video games. Why were there no mass shootings until the advent of video games in the late eighties-early nineties?

OMG, I could fill pages and pages with all that jive lol!
By this logic, we could blame seat belts, the internet, FM radio, LED lights, music streaming, or any other recent innovation that impacts our lives.
But here's a relevant observation. There were no mass shootings before the invention of the firearm.
There are 4 types of value destroyers:
1) instigators (actual users of force and fraud)
2) sympathizers
3) collaborators
4) informants
What about Charles Whitman?
Why?
If video games was the cause, then it should be a common factor among most or all of these shootings.
But it’s not a common factor.
What is a common factor is that not one of these shooters decided that carrying out their planned act was WRONG, and then didn’t proceed. These people do not know the difference between right and wrong, they are lacking any sort of moral foundation.
And for whatever reason, some people cannot govern their emotions, and are instead governed entirely by their emotions, and that is a very dangerous condition, because the emotions of human beings are what allow human beings to murder.
Name a video game that led to the mad shooting in 1966 and I’ll give you other mass shootings.
EVERYONE listened to U2 in the 80s - whether they wanted to or not. In fact, far more people (i.e. everyone) listened to U2 than played violent video games.
Shooting accurately is muscle memory from practice. Video games either use a keyboard and mouse, or joystick/controller. Neither combo will impart the necessary muscle memory for accurate shooting.
It goes without saying, but I’m going to say it anyway. These mass murderers that come from broken homes are a direct result of LBJ and his Great Society.
Exactly! Added & abetted by the changes in mental treatment that started in the 1970s - that of “mainstreaming (Their term ! Not mine)” the patients. “Mainstreaming” is where the patient is kept in the community often on his own minimally supervised. Treated by therapy sessions & drugs. The problem often they’re too difficult for parents (many single parents- usually women!) to see that they reliably tend the sessions and take their drugs. Once they reach the age of majority there’s no immediate legal way of forcing them to continue treatment. States were more then happy to adopt these policies, it saved them healthcare money & put the responsibility on others. Then factor in people mentally damaged by recreational drug use and you have a probably large stream of potential time bombs going into the population well over what might occur naturally.
The point is you don’t need convoluted complex conspiratorial reasons to explain this. Stupid short sighted mental health policies & rampant recreational drug use for two generations more then covers it.

Looks like they started in the 80s when video games consisted of Pac Man and Asteroids.
FPS(first person shooter games) weren’t realistic looking until the mid to late 90s.
I’d sooner blame things on Hollywood before FPS games. A person from the 50s would cry, vomit or run from today’s TV/Movies.
Society has gone downhill since the 60s. I think today’s young male shooters probably have many things going against them. They have no purpose in life. When I was their age, in the mid 80s, anyone who wasn’t headed off to college, got a job by the time they were 18/19. It wasn’t flipping burgers either. It was either entry level sales, office job or a trade. Then came the great exodus of jobs with a new “global economy” that started around the same time. All this ‘free trade’ to lift up other nations knocked ours down. President Trump is bringing the jobs back but it’s been a few generations since young people have been able to go out and get a job that no one can fathom the idea. Get a job? How does that work when people don;t even know HOW TO WORK?
Do kids do chores anymore? I had to shovel snow, rake leaves, mow etc. Rural kids still do that stuff but there’s no jobs for them. Suburbanites hire people to do everything now. The kids have their face in a screen all the time now.
The internet has turned out to be quite the horrendous thing. The El Paso kid allegedly picked up information of a Great Replacement theory(not so much theory as fact). So what does a young white male have to look forward to these days? Nothing good really. Being called the scourge of the earth? Hearing that there will be no jobs due to POC importation or robot replacement? Being called colonists, bigots, homophobes if straight, xenophobes? Being born into the term racist?
Then of course we have disconnected parents who’s first instinct when Johnny isn’t just like them, is to get advice from a doctor or school psychologist and then Johnny gets put on drugs to make him “normal”. All poor Johnny needed in the first place was more interaction with parental figure, preferably male one, if one of those happens to be around and preferably is the actual father.
Parents used to raise kids. Now the village does. This village consists of Day care, Public School, TV, computer, phone, prescriptions, Hollywood.
I don.t play any of the games, but your post is excellent.
But it does omit one very important point.
Many of the mass murderers had serious problems known to their associates.
Most were known to the local cops and some were even known and under surveillance by the FBI.
Every one of the known to be potential killers were ignored. Nothing was done to prevent their criminal acts.
Why?
That is the question that must be answered and proper corrections made to the way these people are treated.
Taking guns away is not going to stop mass murders. Timothy McVeigh did not use a gun. A rental truck loaded with fertilizer, and I believe doctored with kerosene, did the job.
The Boston Bomber did not use a gun.
The 9/11 hijackers did not use guns.
There have been several instances of vehicles used to run through crowds of pedestrians.
Recently a guy set a building on fire with a can of gasoline. Many died in the fire.
As for video games, after we ban them what do we do about the movies. Late night TV plots are written by very sick people.
What do e do about the TV news? Maybe like New Zealand? Jail people who report or show pictures of crime scenes?
Burn books? Start with the pulp fiction detective magazines of old? They must have been the root cause of the likes of John Dillinger and Bonnie and Clyde.
Banning guns and video games will change nothing. The solution is to find and treat or imprison both those who are potential terrorists and especially those who encourage and egg them on.
Tom Arnold, Kathy Griffin and maybe a dozen others who are starved for media attention should be jailed. Inciting murder is not protected as freedom of speech.
