Jordan Peterson on Catholicism: ‘That’s as sane as people can get’
LifeSiteNews ^ | May 27, 2019 | John-Henry Westen

Posted on 05/29/2019 12:37:41 PM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

May 27, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — Speaking with one of the best-known conservative Jews, Dennis Prager, at the PragerU summit last week, world-famous psychologist Jordan Peterson spoke of God and his views of faith. After speaking about his dislike for the question ‘Do you believe in God?’ Peterson said, “I think that Catholicism — that's as sane as people can get.”

Peterson has often been asked about his faith, if he believes in God, and he said the question has always troubled him. He promised a podcast on the matter since he has given his dislike for the question much thought.

He explained, “Who would have the audacity to claim that they believed in God if they examined the way they lived? Who would dare say that?”

“To believe, in a Christian sense,” he added, “means that you live it out fully and that's an that's an unbearable task in some sense.”

Then in one long drawn-out, rapid-fire thought, the type that has enthralled his millions of fans, he laid out extemporaneously the vision of a believer in God:

“To be able to accept the structure of existence, the suffering that goes along with it and the disappointment and the betrayal, and to nonetheless act properly; to aim at the good with all your heart; to dispense with the malevolence and your desire for destruction and revenge and all of that; and to face things courageously and to tell the truth to speak the truth and to act it out, that's what it means to believe -- that's what it means -- it doesn't mean to state it, it means to act it out. And, unless you act it out you should be very careful about claiming it. And so, I've never been comfortable saying anything other than I try to act as if God exists because God only knows what you'd be if you truly believed.”

See the full exchange of Peterson and Prager here.

 Darken them doors...

"One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood, so that to accomplish the mystery of unity we ourselves receive from His (nature) what He Himself received from ours."

--Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215)

"We are compelled in virtue of our faith to believe and maintain that there is only one holy Catholic Church, and that one is apostolic. This we firmly believe and profess without qualification. Outside this Church there is no salvation and no remission of sins, the Spouse in the Canticle proclaiming: 'One is my dove, my perfect one. One is she of her mother, the chosen of her that bore her' (Canticle of Canticles 6:8); which represents the one mystical body whose head is Christ, of Christ indeed, as God. And in this, 'one Lord, one faith, one baptism' (Ephesians 4:5). Certainly Noah had one ark at the time of the flood, prefiguring one Church which perfect to one cubit having one ruler and guide, namely Noah, outside of which we read all living things were destroyed… We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff."

--Pope Boniface VIII, Bull Unam sanctam (A.D. 1302)

This is where you're getting Catholicism wrong. We AGREE with that.

Of course you do!

But then Rome goes along and ADDS different stuff for you to ALSO 'believe'.

The perceived pillars don't build the foundation...They built upon the foundation...

But Rome teachs (Contrary to what USED to be taught) that IT is the foundation - that guy Peter you know.

So; someone ELSE comes here to play,
With wry words: what can we say?
Don’t tangle with us,
or your hair we will muss?
Do it right; or there’ll be Hell to pay!

The main Person addressing the Father -- that is, "doing" the Mass--- is God the Son. He is offering Himself to the Father as the Sacrifice, the Lamb of God.

And that offering of Himself was done, once for all and is FINiSHED and Jesus being raised from the dead showed the completedness of that work.

Hebrews 8:1-13 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man.

For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law. They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”

But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.

For he finds fault with them when he says:

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”

In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 9:11-16 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established.

Hebrews 10:10-14 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Hebrews 10:15-18 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

Hebrews 10:17 Then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

Jesus is not being offered forever in heaven.

IN heaven right now, He is seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding for the saints and waiting for His enemies to be made His footstool.

He's done with the dying part of His work.

That's right. Having died once, and risen from the dead, He will never die again. Death has no dominion over Him. Catholic doctrine completely agrees with the above.

I love those Scriptures, but if you think they constitute a winning argument refuting Jesus' eternal High-Priesthood, you're wasting bandwidth.

I don't think you understand the part about "the Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world," and -- for that matter, "eternal" High Priest.

What it means is that Jesus' sacrifice on the altar of the Cross, both as Lamb and as Priest, once and done, is also eternal,

NOT REPEATED, BUT ETERNAL

--- which means that being Divine, being God, He transcends Time and Space.

Did you get that part?

You keep looking at it quizzically, like I'm talking about "time and time again, over and over again," (which I'm not)... because I'm talking about His timelessness.

That's the part you necessarily ignore, because that's the part which surpasses what the human mind, being finite, can grasp.

To grasp that at all, you have to participate in the Divine nature, become a sharer in that Divine nature which both Peter and Paul talk about --- a gift. It is participating in Heaven on earth.

"May we come to share in the Divinity of Christ, Who humbled himself to share in our humanity."

That only happens by grace. That is the only way it can happen.

WHICH MEANS THAT BEING DIVINE, AS GOD, HE TRANSCENDS TIME AND SPACE.

So does; apparently; Mary…

Let's try some easy math:

There are approximately 1.2 billion Catholics world wide;

If merely 1% of them  'ask' Mary for help just once each day;

that means that 12 million separate prayers are headed Mary's direction every day.

Given that there are 86,400 seconds per day... (24 hours times 60 minutes times 60 seconds)

...that means that Mary has to handle approximately 139 'requests' per second!

Purty good fer someone NOT 'divine'!

Every time you post your 'teaching' you exhibit the fact that you do not know the Risen Christ. Your mythical eating of the continuously sacrificed Jesus exposes your double-mindedness. So when you claim sameness for your religion's 'teaching' on the Catholic Mass and the perspective a protestant denomination holds regarding the ONCE FOR ALL and finished crucifixion, well you are practicing to deceive, wittingly or unwittingly.

I'm giving you the benefit of doubt that you really cannot see the difference because you have yet to see The Risen Lord Christ, High Priest in Heaven.

The carnal mind --which Jesus exposed in the John 6 Bread of Life Discourse as so many turned from Him because they were stuck in carnal thinking-- the carnal mind is not able to see The Risen Lord Christ.
