Jordan Peterson on Catholicism: ‘That’s as sane as people can get’
LifeSiteNews ^ | May 27, 2019 | John-Henry Westen

May 27, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — Speaking with one of the best-known conservative Jews, Dennis Prager, at the PragerU summit last week, world-famous psychologist Jordan Peterson spoke of God and his views of faith. After speaking about his dislike for the question ‘Do you believe in God?’ Peterson said, “I think that Catholicism — that's as sane as people can get.”

Peterson has often been asked about his faith, if he believes in God, and he said the question has always troubled him. He promised a podcast on the matter since he has given his dislike for the question much thought.

He explained, “Who would have the audacity to claim that they believed in God if they examined the way they lived? Who would dare say that?”

“To believe, in a Christian sense,” he added, “means that you live it out fully and that's an that's an unbearable task in some sense.”

Then in one long drawn-out, rapid-fire thought, the type that has enthralled his millions of fans, he laid out extemporaneously the vision of a believer in God:

“To be able to accept the structure of existence, the suffering that goes along with it and the disappointment and the betrayal, and to nonetheless act properly; to aim at the good with all your heart; to dispense with the malevolence and your desire for destruction and revenge and all of that; and to face things courageously and to tell the truth to speak the truth and to act it out, that's what it means to believe -- that's what it means -- it doesn't mean to state it, it means to act it out. And, unless you act it out you should be very careful about claiming it. And so, I've never been comfortable saying anything other than I try to act as if God exists because God only knows what you'd be if you truly believed.”

See the full exchange of Peterson and Prager here.

Please do not tell me what *I* believe as a Catholic.

Why oh why do you continue to say this?

Everyone can SEE that what you believe is NOT the subject here; but what your chosen religion REQUIRES of you.

It doesn't say a thing about "darken the doors of the Catholic Church."

You added that. I didn't.

...a select portion that they hit over and over and over.

Yes son; you HAVE sinned!!!

You need to say 50 Hail Marys and 25 Our Fathers.

Go in peace.

The main Person addressing the Father -- that is, "doing" the Mass--- is God the Son. He is offering Himself to the Father as the Sacrifice, the Lamb of God.

The Son of God is not offering himself to the Father in a mass. This has been done and completed forever. It is no longer necessary. In fact, it is false.

An altar is a place of sacrifice, a place of offering something to God, a place of encountering God. Jesus offered Himself on earth on the “altar of the cross,” and that offering is now made present on the Church’s altar. The altar is related to our Lord’s Passion and represents the cross.

The "alter of the cross" was not an alter, but a place judgement upon the sins of mankind (and for womenkinds too!). God turned His back on Christ at that time as judgement was rendered.

There is no new offering being made again. Not on earth and not in Heaven. It is finished and His Blood is placed on the Mercy Seat in Heaven.

Praying to Mary is false worship.

Endless repetition of the same prayer over and over is false prayer.

READ MY LIPS... Not gonna do it.

And the Catholic Church teaches: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."

"and just who IS my neighbor?'

The one who took pity upon him.

(Why do I respond to you when you said you don’t read all pings??)

Five pages of pings makes it hard to read the bible on your own time.

Well, at least if you don't have time to study to show yourself approved or listen to good exposition of the Scriptures, you can attend Mass every single day of the year and get a portion read.

I imagine!!

But if you were preaching through Ezekiel, verse by verse, you’d come to it and deal with it.

Besides, you need to leave time to kiss bones and light candles and so forth.

Better if you rely on translators for "parsing"--- and not one of these is a "Catholic" translation, they're all Protestant/Evangelical:

#739

"...the house of God, which is an assembly of the living God -- a pillar and foundation of the truth.(Young's Literal Translation) "An assembly" = "a pillar"

"This is the church of the living God, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth. (NLT)"Church which is" the pillar.

"..you will know how everyone who belongs to God's family ought to behave. After all, the church of the living God is the strong foundation of truth.(CEV)

... I now write, so that you may have rules to guide you in dealing with God's household. For this is what the Church of the ever-living God is, and it is the pillar and foundation-stone of the truth.(WNT)(Church "IT" is the pillar...)

You may read at BibleHub the most esteemed of the Protestant or Evangelical commentators, who say that the pillar (στύλον) and foundation, bulwark, ground (ἑδραίωμα) refer to the aforementioned "church of the Living God."

I notice that some type Church with nothing preceding the word.

We Christians are collectively all part of and in the church that Jesus created.

I think that Catholics want us to believe that the “Church” refers to the Catholic Church. And it is THE “church” that Jesus started.

Sad that they don’t seen to want to be a part of the church, but just the denominational Church.

Cogent point of fact. It is an act of the will to believe at the level of faithing (yes, a verb) in Christ as Savior and Lord. Men can direct the mind to agree to almost anything, but when the will is turned to God's Truth, the human spirit can come alive by the engrafting of the Holy Spirit seal.

We have on this very thread examples of mental ascent while the will remains self-righteous in works, believing the high verbiage is evidence of a born from above spirit. Sadly, these are the very ones Jesus will say to them, 'Depart from me, I never knew you.'
