Officials in the town of Plougastel in the region of Brittany, which is located in northwest France, are offering about $2,250 if someone can decipher the roughly 20 lines of writing on the rock, which was first discovered a few years back, per the BBC.
The inscription includes a series of capitalized letters, two dates 1786 and 1787 and carvings of a boat and a sacred heart, the BBC reported, which noted local experts have hypothesized it may be written in old Breton or Basque.
"This inscription is a mystery and it is for this that we are launching the appeal," Veronique Martin, who is leading the search, said, according to Agence France-Presse.
"These dates correspond more or less to the years that various artillery batteries that protected Brest and notably Corbeau Fort which is right next to it," she added.
The inscription reads, in part: "ROC AR B... DRE AR GRIO SE EVELOH AR VIRIONES BAOAVEL... R I OBBIIE: BRISBVILAR... FROIK...AL," per the publication.
According to the BBC, some of the letters are upside-down and some Scandinavian-style Ø letters are also visible.

:^) The translation is, "we don't serve clubs or colors."

It looks like the mathematical definition of a continuous function.
Definition of a limit.
Okay, I see that. Does require that the function is continuous in the neighborhood of the limit.
Right, a def of continuity over an interval is that left and right handed limits at a point are equal for every point on the interval.
It says “I shall ever fart in your general direction and your mom smells of elderberries.”
Very cool.
It’s Greek to me......................
The First Transcription
We have two basic sources for the inscription: the version that appeared in the Bulletin (just after the above-translated text), and the hand-written version that appears in the mairies PDF. Firstly, heres the SAF version:

All the same, I have to point that this SAF transcription isnt really doing justice to the lettering on the rock. For a start, the first letter resembles a lower case d more than a D; several of the letters seem to have backwards N shapes; and so forth.
Even so, this first transcription was (without much doubt) done in good faith some years ago, and we must be aware that the process of cleaning it up and preparing it for public view in 2017-2019 may possibly have added a layer of interpretation to these carvings that wasnt originally there.
