Parked Tesla Spontaneously Explodes In Chinese Garage

About 24 hours ahead of Tesla’s coming “Investor Day” and just moments after we broke the news that Tesla had been granted a restraining order on a short seller who has been critical of the company on Twitter, stunning video has surfaced of a Tesla catching fire and exploding, while parked.

A self proclaimed Tesla owner in Shanghai that Tweets under the name @ShanghaiJayIn posted video on his Twitter moments ago of what appears to be a Tesla Model S, 1st generation, catching fire spontaneously in a Chinese parking garage.

Video at the bottom shows the aftermath of the fire…

Aftermath hopefully we will hear from Tesla what truly happened. pic.twitter.com/DuFi0pW9dk

The problem is that people are looking to put a bank of batteries in their homes to store the solar energy from their solar panels.

In order to save money in solar, keep your wires as short as possible. Use FLA type batteries. The result, batteries are in a box in your garage. Box not vented enough. Not good.

“In my life I’ve seen two cars catch fire while parked. Neither one of them made international news. They didn’t even make the local news.”

Years ago post-Internet, my self-insured municipality had a fire truck catch fire on a routine delivery of Meals-on-Wheels, a million or so worth of damage.

No one injured.

Very brief local news.

Those who responded and found it hilarious, or disturbing that firefighters had risked and lost so much outside of actual firefighting, were alleged to have hated firefighters, wished death upon the elderly, and “Fine, see how fast firefighters come when YOU need them!”

Sad and funny at the same time.

Not ducking. There are clearly very different methods for extinguishing fires. You should know this.

turning the ignition off and back on again while going slow that would cause a backfire

That was a very popular sporting event, back then.
Requires a stick or sufficient speed for the auto trans to spin the motor.

Today not many automatic will spin the motor, no rear pumps.

Today the fuel injection stops with the ignition.

But if you get grandma’s car up and moving, be very careful about the “off”, time.
Too much and the muffler takes the shape of a beer can that experienced a cherry bomb.

A common side effect.

Have fuse the heck out of everything. And I suspect that you want them in your basement (not a garage) or a cool place too.

“C02 is non-combustible. It’s why puts OUT fires.”

The OP mentioned nothing about ignition, only the CO2 build-up and explosion.

I’ve had some fun mixing baking soda and vinegar in a closed vessel...

So I guess the old-fashioned mafia carbomb is going to have to be rejiggered; or, on second thought, maybe the mafia sees an opportunity to just gift the victim with a Tesla.

The biggest “what were we thinking?” of all time will be when there are 20 million highly-toxic, oversized batteries to get rid of. That is a the epic EPA Supersite of the future.

“It happens. Legendary rock band Spinal Tap lost a drummer to spontaneous combustion”

Yep, Peter James Bond. All they found of him was a little green globule on the drum seat. Tragic incident while playing at the Jazz Blue, or was it Blues Jazz festival on the Isle of Lucy?

The batteries are recycled.

Which diesel might that be?

It's a BMW 5 Series which I just bought last year.I traded a 3 Series diesel that would get 53MPG on summer diesel. That one was RWD,the current one is bigger, heavier and is AWD.

Amazing,IMO! Certainly amazing enough to cause me to laugh and shake my head whenever I see a Tesla.
