The longtime manager the CBS Employees Federal Credit Union has been arrested and charged with embezzling more than $40 million from his employer over the past 20 years. Edward Rostohar faces felony counts of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.
In conjunction with the arrest, the National Credit Union Administration — a federal agency that regulates credit unions — announced Friday that it has liquidated the CBS Employees Federal Credit Union and shut down its operations. University Credit Union immediately assumed CBS Employees’ assets.

Credit Unions are Federally insured, why in the hell was in not audited, then again if the government was doing the auditing not finding anything wrong doesn’t surprise me one bit!!! IDIOTS!!!

This fellow had worked at the government agency that audits credit unions before he got the job at CBS. He knew a lot about how the audits work and what to do to avoid being caught.
If he had just stopped at $39 million, he would have gotten away with it!
The giveaway is when an employee is obviously living large - gambling, fancy cars, vacations, etc.
I agree, someone wasn’t paying attention, and the auditors were less than thorough.
I’m on a credit union board of directors, and while I wouldn’t say “it can’t happen here,” I think we would spot something like this.

Actually, they are Federally insured. The depositors are safe. Premiums will probably go up, which will negatively impact all other credit unions, and their depositors.
When he shows up. you take the auditor out for a liquid lunch.
An acquaintance of ours who lives nearby was just charged with embezzling six million or so from clients of his financial services firm. Makes you wonder...how do they think they won’t be caught eventually? Or is it white guilt making them WANT to be caught? < /sarc >
