NYC teachers speak out about their horrific experiences in class
NY Post ^ | March 7, 2019 | Post Staff Report

This is way beyond talking out of turn — today’s public school students are hellions who attack educators, shout X-rated bile and make bomb threats with impunity, teachers told The Post.

“If I had a dime for every time I was told to suck something, I’d be a millionaire,” said a female Jamaica, Queens, high school teacher.

you think some of the rednecks that will leave comments here are gonna think it’s a teacher problem?

One already is spouting about NY and he couldn’t give a #### about you or your problems. To quote “hate to be unsympathetic but, oh well”

Naive Hick. It’s just a NYC problem. His head is so stuck in the sand i’m surprised he can breathe.

Why do you let them destroy the place you live in all the time?

#### that.

Staten Island is great and I love it here.

Ahhhh, the rotten fruit of secular humanism coming full bloom. We turned our kids over to state schools for a few generations, add in the media / entertainment complex, a little hedonism and nihilism to get the stench just right and vola, the perfect brew to surrender to the Democratic Socialist state. Gramsci and the Frankfort school knew what they were doing back in the 20s and 30s, culture trumps everything.

Part of it is that we aren’t allowed to discipline students.

Does any school system still allow corporal punishment?

And the home environment is a big factor too. I remember decades ago, anybody getting in trouble in school was then fearful of the punishment he would get at home, for getting in trouble at school .

Kids today have no fears of punishment or consequences for anything they do.

Lots of problems up here with kids’ behaviour as well.

If they want to blame someone, they can blame their own Ministry of Education. They were the idiots that brought in the whole child-centered learning theory, which embraces the silly notion that you will damage self-esteem if you do anything other than tell kids how wonderful they are for anything and everything they do.

We have a problem getting school bus drivers as well because the kids are such brats. They don’t listen to adults who tell them to remain seated and converse quietly. They’re horrible.

I used to volunteer in our local public school years back and I was stunned at how noisy and chaotic it was back then! They need to get back to the old system where every kid had their own desk, sat quietly, put up their hand when they wanted to speak, etc. It worked....even for those kids from dysfunctional homes. It was the structure they needed.

So why do the teachers stay? I have changed jobs if I did not like the employer or I thought it was dangerous. Just a bunch of crybabies and the students know it.

Once children figure out they can get the teachers in worse trouble than they themselves will ever face, there’s no holding them back. All they have to do is fabricate a racial taunt, a homosexual slur or a sexual assault accusation and the teacher will get fired and the kid will learn victimhood is a means to an end.

This is 100% true. You cannot imagine the centuries of teaching experience, good seasoned knowledgeable teachers who have been harassed into retiring or brought up on totally fallacious charges based on student statements coached by vindictive administrators. You cannot imagine a KID telling you, "F you. I gonna get you fired, b____!" and you know it's true. Based on these fabricated accusations of things the teachers never did or said, they can and have been fired. You cannot discipline students even to the most minimal level, such as asking them to be quiet or put their phone away, lest you get a letter in your file or worse. And, NYC has had a con going on for several years--veteran teachers accused of anything, even if they were exonerated, are put into a common pool called the Absentee Teacher Reserve. You lose your position at your school, you lose having your own classes, you are nothing more than a sub assigned to different schools every week, every month, every 3 months--the lack of consistency in this just goes to show that the Department of Education doesn't know what it's doing, even to the extent of standardizing this period. Veteran teachers with masters and years of experience are assigned to cover classes which only very rarely are in their field of expertise. Mostly, they just hand out handouts and try to keep the kids from killing each other. They are also assigned cafeteria duty, clerical duties (although this is against the contract), and, best of all, to be assigned to sit in the hall by the bathrooms and sign students in and out all day. THIS is why they worked hard and got their masters degrees--to supervise toilets. It is, altogether, a tremendously humiliating and degrading experience--as it is meant to be. They want you OUT, by any means. If the termination proceedings didn't work, they will assign you to be an ATR. Oh yeah--they send around "supervisors" to make formal observations of these displaced teachers "teaching" kids they never met before, have no relationship or rapport with, and don't know the quirks of. So this teacher is up there trying to teach a lesson, with the kids knowing they have no leverage over them such as grades. So you can imagine the level of cooperation the teacher gets, and what their observation scores often are. That's really a fair evaluation of their teaching ability, right? And if you get 2 unsatisfactory scores, you are terminated. And if your lesson doesn't follow the latest and greatest new "technique"--never mind you know what works, from experience--even if the teacher never received training because they go from school to school--they are rated unsatisfactory if their lesson is not taught according to that new technique. This started with BLOOMBERG, may he die of a painful disease soon.

Why even get up in the morning, to face yet another fruitless and frustrating day?

My son teaches at a private school. He doesn’t make the money a public school teacher does, for his nearly 30 years of experience, but then, he doesn’t have to put up with this kind of crap, either. And he works with LD and BD kids!

Some districts have already lowered the standards for teachers to pass -— they weren’t getting enough teachers able to pass the certification tests.

“My AP [assistant principal] said, ‘I can’t report that,’ ” he fumed. “One of the reasons, I’m told, is that the administration wants the numbers [of suspensions and lesser disciplines] down. There’s no discipline enforced.”

Same exact thing as when Soviet factories would report fake numbers to meet the 5 Year Plans.

The state of New York recently passed a law requiring prospective school teachers to take a literacy test to get their license, but repealed it the following year because 36 percent of whites failed the test on the first try, while 54 percent of Hispanics and 59 percent of blacks failed.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/13/nyregion/ny-regents-teacher-exams-alst.html

In other words the State of New York is knowingly putting a large number of illiterate teachers in classrooms.

Maybe that has something to do with their “horrific experiences.”

De Blasio and his Commissioner of Education want to unleash these feral kids on the small number of schools in good areas and selective schools, for example, Stuyvesant.

And yet, the same teachers would like to force us all to put our kids into these places.

(Their teacher’s union opposes homeschooling, charter schools, etc.)

Based on their own comments, the liberals in NY City schools are obviosly a failure, since they seem to have zero control over their students.

You are a bitter vulgar person.

I’ve seen your posts where you admit your angry cursing and swearing is a problem for you. I’ve seen your cursing remarks get deleted by the moderator. So please. Deal with it.

I wish I had an answer for your problems. But I don’t. But if you think you need to leave FR, then fine.

“If I had a dime for every time I was told to suck something, I’d be a millionaire,”

Yes yes, but if a student is seen wearing a hat or shirt that says, "Make America Great Again", that's where NY School teachers jump into action to stop it in it's tracks!

What did Responsibility2nd say that was incorrect?

Yes, I know that you are from NYC and feel the need to defend your town. But the truth is that NYC is run by democrats and suffers from the same problems that all democrat dominated cities have. including schools that are hell holes with all the good teachers leaving and the remaining teachers being treated like slaves.

Am I a hick? You bet I am!!! But you know what, we have good schools and good kids and we don’t see half the problems that the big city jungle schools do.

The way I see it R2nd was correct. The teachers unions are totally democrat, they elect only democrats and the democrats implement policies that destroy schools.

It’s hard to be sympathetic to people who do this to themselves and then whine about it hoping that we will fix it.
