The minute you think the person might have something do do with some crime, they are a “suspect” vested with all of their constitutional rights. If you think they might know something but had nothing to do with it, they are a “witness”.

The two are tentatively being identified as Emmanuel Goldstein and Puddin’ Tame.

I’d hate to be one of those persons of interest. You can be sure that the cops are under enormous pressure to “solve” this one, and guilt or innocence be damned.
