CHICAGO -- Chicago police confirmed Thursday that detectives are talking to two persons of interest in connection with the alleged attack on "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett.
Smollett said he was attacked around 2 a.m. on Jan. 29 in the 300-block of East North Water Street in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood. He told police two masked men shouted homophobic slurs at him, attacked him, put a rope around his neck and poured a liquid on him that smelled like bleach.
Smollett, 36, is black and openly gay.
Police said they have not found surveillance video that shows the attack, but earlier in the investigation, they did release grainy surveillance images of two possible persons of interest. The photos show two silhouettes on New Street near Illinois Street between 1:30 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 29.
In a statement released Thursday, police said they identified the two people in the surveillance photos and tracked their movements using cameras, public transportation records and corroborating info provided by Smollett.
Anthony Guglielmi, spokesman for Chicago Police Department, said the two persons of interest are not suspect and have not been charged. Police said there is no evidence that they were invovled in the attack. Investigators are only talking with them at this time.
Smollett spoke exclusively with Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America" Thursday. He reflected on what happened to him that morning and what has happened to him since.
"It's the attackers, but also the attacks," he said, adding of those who don't believe his story, "It's not necessarily that you don't believe that this is the truth, you don't even want to see the truth."
Guglielmi said earlier Thursday morning that he watched the GMA interview with CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson. Guglielmi said Smollett's comments on GMA are consistent with what he's told Chicago police. Unfortunately, police have no solid evidence to arrest anyone at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.

The cops knew this guy was full of crap within a minute of talking to him.
ABC moving heaven and earth to make this bogus story true.
The Lone Ranger and Tonto? Two masked men. Did he proposition the two persons of interest while clutching a ‘foot long’ and they didn’t care for that? Or just two random dudes who happened to appear in a video within a few blocks of the alleged event? Will ‘juicy’ be made to pay back all the money wasted on this lie? He/she/them/they should have to. Will the various outlets that pumped up the story apologi.........LOL! We know those answers.
What was the body count on the Southside this past weekend? Have any of the victims’ names been made public; as public as Jussie Smollett?
This is a hoax. Done to get sympathy and publicity for him in his show. Celebrities often do something to get free publicity. Paris Hilton sex tape. Hugh Grant hooker.
In addition, he has two get out of jail cards, plus he knows the media will cover up the truth for him.
Meanwhile, 10 people have been murdered in Chicago since they took up Smollett’s case.
The only reason Smollett’s lie keeps dragging on is because he’s Black and gay. Both he and the Chicago PD are “negotiating” an end to the matter!

One, there is simply no such thing as a person of interest depite what soccer moms and hit TV shows say. It is a term that was invented when the FBI attempted to frame Richard Jewell the Hero of the Atlanta Olympics. The minute you think the person might have something do do with some crime, they are a “suspect” vested with all of their constitutional rights. If you think they might know something but had nothing to do with it, they are a “witness”.
And his attack was a farce designed to hide some homosexual and doper behavior.
It will remain an “unsolved” crime. They don’t have the nerve to say hoax, much less do anything about it.
We’re watching the “reality is subjective” philosophy play out, from introduction & advocacy to youth in education, to bringing it to the real world, and now watching reality objectively beat the crap out of those who insist reality is other than what it is.
Reporting subjective reality led to many reporters recently discovering that unemployment is objective.
