It seems that the fake news keeps telling us that RBG is just fine and is able to do what her job requires of her. I'm curious, how many of you know 85 year old who would be capable of doing the job of listening to Legal arguments and going through legal documents?
My grandma was very healthy and active at age 85, although I still cannot imagine her doing that job.
But not only is she super old, she has just allegedly gone through broken ribs and lung cancer removal. I cannot think of many 30 year olds that could come back to work quickly after that.
I know there are a lot of senior citizens here, so your Insight will be a lot better than mine. What are your thoughts of having this 85 year old woman on the bench?
Of course it is hypocritical. We’re speaking of the democrats. I know plenty of old people who are not facing what she is facing. My dad is 93 and he is going quite strong. Not frail at all!
But she is not. Perhaps her mind is still what it was (I was going to say lucid, but I’m not sure that applies), but her body is done for.
True. My aunt worked until she reached 85. She did not quit because she was mentally impaired but because her eyesight was failing. Later, when she was 95, her biggest mental impairment was forgetting where she put her checkbook. As time passed, her mind didn't fail her but her body did. She suffered enough with physical ailments that she longed for death in her late 90s. She finally passed at 102.
On the other side, one of my employers kept working into his 80s as his job defined who he was. He would not quit despite a failing memory, impaired judgment and the habit of falling asleep even during meetings with clients (embarrassing as Ginsberg's sleeping during oral arguments and the State of the Union.)
I do know several folks who are close to 90, fit and with their faculties intact, who could easily do the job. Looking at them and speaking with them, one would never know their true ages.
Her age in and of itself is not an issue. I know a few octogenarians, and while most definitely show signs physically of their ages... to cast them all as mentally incompetent is silly.
I know a many who could intellectually run rings around some of the sharpest young minds around... I also know some who are sadly suffering from cognitive decline.
For Ginsburg, whether she wants to admit it or not, and the lefts attempt to deify her not withstanding, she is facing her mortality... whether she want to accept it or not.
This is her 3rd if I am not mistaken bout of cancer... and she has taken at least a few major falls in the past few years... Falls are a HUGE simple indicator of overall health... its amazing how good of an indicator they are... Which is why every doctor who’s worth their salt will ask you if you have had any falls in the last 12 months on workup.
She is clearly physically frail, anyone telling you otherwise is lying to you. I don’t care how many times they play a clip of her doing “pushups”... she’s a very frail woman at this point. However, while her speech is slow, and volume generally low, I haven’t seen anything to indicate that the mental acuity is NOT still quite in tact. Yes, she is tired, she falls asleep, and has a very hard time moving around, but as of the moment, I have seen nothing to indicate she has lost her mental capacities.
I don’t agree with her legal world view at all, but I don’t see mental decline. However, her physical decline is quite obvious, and the PR campaigns to try to pretend she is anything other than a very frail elderly woman is laughable, and sad. Not for her personally, but for the people who are trying to prop that myth up.
Unless Ginsburg is a fool, she has to be very aware of her mortality at this point, and if she’s adamant about not retiring until she’s 90, the man upstairs may force that issue before she makes it.
Time will tell.
Backing up, you would then take it that it is 1/6 at 80, 1/12 at 75, 1/24 at 70, and 1/48 at 65.And going forward, that it would be 2/3 at 90 - and 100% at 95.

In general, geometric progressions flatten out and actually approach some sort of saturation point.
No, RBG would not even consider recusing herself regarding a case about Pres. Trump.

That woman - RBG - has one of nine Supreme Court franchises.
As long as she is not technically dead, she will continue to do the job she was placed there to do - with the help of her team on Capitol Hill and the DNC. There are probably a 100 people involved in her care and handling and clerking.
If she can wink and nod, her law clerks will file her expertly written opinions. And we will all be amazed at her stamina.
She’s skipping hearings so that the absence of her snoring wouldn’t clue people in on her already giving up the ghost. :)
My parents. Both in mint condition mentally and physically barring wear and tear. They plan to go parasailing this year.
I play bridge with 2 89 year old twin brothers. Both very sharp. Both spend a lot of time reading, and on the computer.
In my family the ones who have made it to 85 have not been in any condition to work due to Alzheimer’s.
But RGB is not GOING back to the bench. Right now, she is reviewing the cases from her home, and phoning it in....
She may never physically return to the Supreme Court bench.
The pay was probably better.....................

I can’t imagine her ever going back to the bench. She should retire and do it soon.
I hope they send someone in to ask her about what she has written.
I would not be at all opposed to putting the USSC on a 25 year term, and capping it at 80 y.o.
Scotus don’t write anyway. Their clerks do...........
Anyway, my dad turned 90 last October, and he has more energy and stamina than many people. He drives at night, mows the lawn, repairs the house and before Christmas painted his living room and kitchen, sings in not one, but two choirs. I have to remind him from time to time that he is no longer 80. And we are preparing to go on a cross country road trip. People gasp when they find out he is 90.
When I read up on the history of impeachment 20 years ago I found several of the cases were of Supreme Court Justices that went senile but refused to leave.
